Box Office: Ajay Devgn scores his third double century with Drishyam 2

Ajay Devgn has done it again. Pre-pandemic, it was his Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, which emerged as the last big success of 2020 and in fact came quite close to hitting a triple century. Post that lockdown happened and for more than 20 months there was no theatrical success till Sooryavanshi happened (which had him feature in a special appearance).

Later, in 2022, he also had a cameo in Gangubai Kathiawadi, year’s first success, and then RRR, the second biggest Hindi grosser of the year so far. Of course there were disappointments in Runway 34 and Thank God as well but Drishyam 2 has erased those disappointments.

The film has joined the big league with the Rs 200 crores mark been crossed in the fourth weekend itself. On Sunday, the film will go past the Rs 4 crores mark comfortably and the collections will stand at Rs 203 crores*. As has been the trend for the film ever since its release, there was very big growth from Friday to Sunday, and today there would be a little more jump which should result in Rs 5 crores more been added to the total.

Personally for Ajay Devgn too there would be some more personal milestones crossed. Today, the film will emerge as his second biggest crossed, what with Golmaal Again lifetime of Rs 205.70 crores being crossed today. However, the film will stay short of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior which was massive at Rs 280 crores. Perhaps that milestone would be crossed by Bhola or Singham Again when they arrive.

Meanwhile for director Abhishek Pathak too the film has emerged as a biggie. As a producer he has delivered some good successes and now he has transitioned quite successfully as a director as well. One now waits to see him call the shots for Drishyam 3, though one waits to see if he makes something before that as well.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
