Visionary filmmaker Shankar has finally addressed the much-anticipated Hindi remake of his 2005 Tamil blockbuster ‘Anniyan’, which was set to star Ranveer Singh. Announced a few years ago, the project stirred excitement but has since remained dormant, leaving fans wondering about its status.
Speaking during the promotional rounds for his upcoming film ‘Game Changer’ starring Ram Charan, Shankar shared intriguing updates about the Ranveer Singh collaboration. While the original announcement positioned the project as a Hindi remake of Anniyan, Shankar now suggests the plans might have evolved.
Shankar mentioned that all aspects, including the director, actor, story, and schedule, need to align for a project to materialize. He added that they planned to work on a film with Ranveer Singh and aimed to make it a grand venture. Addressing whether the Anniyan Hindi remake is still on, the filmmaker explained, “Times have changed since the project was first announced. Several pan-Indian films have come, and we are looking to do something bigger.”
The original ‘Anniyan’ featured Vikram in a compelling triple role, portraying an orthodox and rule-abiding man with dissociative identity disorder who transforms into a ruthless vigilante. The film was lauded for its gripping narrative, powerful performances, and Shankar’s trademark larger-than-life execution, earning cult status in Indian cinema.
The announcement of its Hindi remake with Ranveer Singh in the lead role had generated massive buzz. However, the lack of updates over the years led to speculation about the project’s fate.
Meanwhile, Shankar and Ram Charan’s ‘Game Changer’ will hit the big screens on January 10. The movie also stars Kiara Advani in the lead.
