Veteran actor James Woods, 77, has been left devastated after his Pacific Palisades residence was destroyed in the massive wildfires sweeping through Southern California. The blazes that have ravaged the Los Angeles area have forced countless families to flee, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Speaking with CNN’s Pamela Brown, the ‘Vampires’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ star shared the emotional toll of losing his home to the unforgiving flames. “One moment you’re enjoying life, and the next, everything is reduced to ash,” Woods said tearfully. It reflected the suddenness of the tragedy, he admitted he was still grappling with the reality of the loss.
Despite the heartbreak, Woods recounted a touching moment that brought a glimmer of hope. His wife, Sara Miller-Woods, and her 8-year-old niece rallied together to show their support for rebuilding the family’s future. The young girl in a gesture of pure love offered her piggy bank to help begin the process of recovery. “It was a tiny thing, but it held so much meaning,” Woods said, his voice breaking. “That small act reminded me of the strength of family and the resilience of the human spirit.”
Amidst all the chaos, Woods also recounted helping his elderly neighbour, a 94-year-old man suffering from dementia, escape the fire’s path. “The scene was absolute madness. Houses were burning all around us,” Woods shared.
“I couldn’t leave him behind. He needed help, and it was my responsibility to make sure he was safe,” he added. Overwhelmed with emotion, he admitted that he had underestimated the emotional toll of the disaster.
Woods shared visuals of the devastation on social media, offering a glimpse into the fiery chaos that consumed his neighborhood. There were images of homes ablaze and streets choked with smoke accompanied by his message “In times like these, there’s nothing more valuable than a supportive community.” He also expressed gratitude for the kindness extended by neighbours and first responders, emphasizing the power of solidarity in times of crisis.
The wildfires have wreaked across the region, displacing thousands and halting major events, including the Critics Choice Awards. Hollywood productions have also been put on hold, underscoring the widespread impact of the disaster. As the fires continue to rage, communities and emergency crews are working tirelessly to navigate this unparalleled tragedy.
