Ralph Fiennes: Thrilled to be nominated and celebrating 8 Oscar nominations for Conclave |

Conclave, the gripping thriller exploring the secretive process of electing a new Pope, is the hot favourite this awards season. The film, directed by Edward Berger and based on Robert Harris’ novel, has captivated audiences and critics alike with its compelling narrative and stellar performances by its cast.
The thriller scored an astounding eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes, Best Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini, apart from recognition for Costume Design, Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, Production Design, and Film Editing.

Reacting to his Best Actor nomination for his role as the enigmatic Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, Ralph Fiennes said in a statement to ETimes, “I’m thrilled to be nominated and to be celebrating the other nominations for Conclave. Edward Berger brought an extraordinary cast and crew together—he is an inspirational director with rare insight and a unique vision, which lies at the heart of this film.”

Isabella Rossellini, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Sister Agnes, reflected on the honour and her journey as an actor, “When I was young, I was always identified as the daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini. As I’ve gotten older, this doesn’t happen as frequently; and, I miss it, especially today. I wish my parents were alive to celebrate with me this great honour. My past, including my work with David Lynch, shaped my understanding of acting, and I brought all of it to my role as Sister Agnes under Edward Berger’s clear and sharp direction. Thank you to the Academy—I am deeply honoured.”

Peter Straughan, who received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, highlighted the collaborative spirit of the film and sent his heart out to fellow industry insiders who lost their homes in the recent LA wildfires. Peter said, in a statement, “It is an enormous honour to receive this nomination. Conclave was a labour of love, thanks to author Robert Harris, producer Tessa Ross, director Edward Berger, and our incredible cast, led by Ralph Fiennes. My thoughts, however, are with the people of L.A. facing the ongoing threat of wildfires during this time.”

Conclave, which invites audiences to experience a powerful exploration of faith, power, and humanity, will have its theatrical release in India on 7th February.
