A Quiet Place Prequel Casts Hereditary’s Alex Wolff

A Quiet Place: Day One casts Hereditary star Alex Wolff who will reteam with Pig director Michael Sarnoski and join Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn.

A Quiet Place: Day One is rounding out its cast with Hereditary‘s Alex Wolff. Led by the real-life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place launched an unexpected horror franchise when it was released to rave reviews and big office returns in 2018 and was followed by a successful sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, in 2021. Paramount is currently moving forward with a threequel, A Quiet Place Part III, and is expanding the franchise with A Quiet Place: Day One. The spinoff movie has already made headlines for casting Black Panther‘s Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things season 4 breakout Joseph Quinn in lead roles.

Now, A Quiet Place: Day One expands its cast with another star. Deadline confirms that Alex Wolff has joined the horror spinoff movie, an actor best known for horror-thrillers like Ari Aster’s Hereditary and M. Night Shyamalan‘s Old. On A Quiet Place: Day One, Wolff will also reunite with Michael Sarnoski, who previously directed him on the sleeper hit Pig.

Plot details for A Quiet Place: Day One are being kept under wraps for the time being. However, based on the title, the spin-off movie should explore the first day the blind monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing arrived on Earth. A Quiet Place Part II‘s opening flashback scene already provided a glimpse of this fateful day. During a little league baseball game, the Abbot family witnesses an asteroid hurtling towards Earth from which the alien monsters emerge, causing all hell to break loose throughout the nearby town.

Instead of focusing on a tight-knit family like the mainline Quiet Place movies, the Day One spinoff is expected to provide a more overarching look at the post-apocalyptic world through the perspective of multiple characters. A few of those characters will be played by Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn, the latter recently breaking out for his performance as the fan-favorite character Eddie Munson in season 4. Alex Wolff will also play one of those undisclosed characters, adding to the actor’s list of upcoming high-profile roles along with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Based on an original idea by Krasinski, A Quiet Place: Day One is written and directed by Michael Sarnoksi, who recently made his feature directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed film Pig, which starred Nicolas Cage and Wolff. A Quiet Place: Day One is intended to expand the cinematic universe and start a spinoff series that will hopefully receive multiple sequels in the years to come, possibly with Nyong’o, Quinn, and Wolff as its primary faces. With the main cast now revealed, A Quiet Place: Day One should begin production any day now ahead of its release on March 8, 2024.
