Adam Driver’s Sci-Fi Thriller Getting New Streaming Home Nearly 2 Years After $60M Disappointment

As much as Adam Driver‘s career has reached some impressive highs, it has been met with some notable lows. On the one hand, Driver has been a part of some major moneymakers over the past decade. All three of his Star Wars movies made over $1 billion, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens making just shy of $2.1 billion. On the other hand, however, Driver has played roles in films that have lost boatloads of money. Most infamously, he played the lead in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, which made a mere $13.8 million on an $120 million budget.

The same disparity applies to the critical reception of Driver’s films as well. The actor has been a part of indie darlings like Frances Ha and Inside Llewyn Davis that have earned Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores of over 90%. His work has been praised in similarly high-scoring movies like Paterson and Marriage Story. On the other hand, Driver has been a part of some more divisive titles, such as This Is Where I Leave You and The Dead Don’t Die. One of Driver’s underperforming works is now getting a new streaming home.

65 Is Coming To Hulu

And It Is Coming Soon

Driver’s 65 is coming to Hulu soon. Directed by Heretic creatives Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, 65 is a sci-fi film about a pilot who is transported to what he thinks is a faraway planet, but discovers there is something far more prehistoric at play. As is a trend in parts of Driver’s career, 65 was incredibly divisive at the time of its release, scoring a 36% Tomatometer among critics and a 64% Popcornmeter among audiences. The sci-fi film also underperformed at the box office, making $60.7 million on an estimated $45 million budget.

Now, a new streaming home has been announced for 65. 65 will be arriving on Hulu on Wednesday, January 8. The Driver film was recently announced to be leaving Netflix on January 7, so this news means that the sci-fi movie will not go without a streaming home for long.

The swamp scenes were largely shot in the Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana.

Driver Shines In The Lead Role

65 may not be Driver’s best movie, but it is conceptually interesting and a testament to Driver’s ability as a leading man. For those who like Heretic, it is a comparable movie in that it also focuses on just a few key characters, mainly Mills, who discover a deeper danger than they originally perceived. 65 is a good example of what Woods and Beck can do given a bigger budget, even if the execution may not have been perfect.
