Andy Serkis Discusses Whether He’d Join New Lord Of The Rings Movies

Andy Serkis shares whether he is interested in joining the new Lord of the Rings movies from New Line Cinemas and Middle-earth Enterprises.

Andy Serkis shares that he would jump at the chance to join the recently announced Lord of the Rings movies. The announcement from Warner Bros. Pictures revealed that New Line Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises are collaborating on numerous feature films that take place in The Lord of the Rings universe. They are new projects, which will be based on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. This has led to speculation about whether familiar characters and actors from the original movies will return.

In an interview with BroBible, Serkis is asked whether he would be interested in joining the new Lord of the Rings movies. The actor makes it clear that he cherishes the original movies, where he brought his iconic portrayal of Gollum/Smeagol to life. In addition to adoring the movies he worked on in the past, Serkis also expresses how eager he would be to join the new Lord of the Rings movies if presented with the opportunity. Read Serkis’ response below:

“Look, [producers] Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens are sort of a second family that I have become part of and have gone on to make so many films with. And — let me tell you — they are the best and most incredible people to work with. I think that there are so many other potential Middle-Earth projects which could come about, and if they’re doing them, I would, of course, jump at the chance to have that relationship rekindled … Middle-Earth has never left me.”

How Andy Serkis Could Be Part Of The New Lord Of The Rings Movies

The enthusiasm that Serkis has for joining the new Lord of the Rings movies is exciting, but the question remains as to how he would fit in these projects. The most natural fit would be if Serkis reprises his role as Gollum. If Gollum returns in the new movies, Serkis is the only one who should play him. While The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King briefly shows how Gollum first found and became possessed by the One Ring, most of the time with his “precious” has not been shown.

Most of the time after The Hobbit and before The Fellowship of the Ring, where Gollum didn’t have the Ring, has also not been shown much in the existing Lord of the Rings movies. The new films could potentially fill in some of the gaps in Gollum’s story, whether he is the protagonist or a supporting character. There is also the possibility that the new Lord of the Rings movies will be remakes of Peter Jackson’s adaptations, with Serkis still playing Gollum.

Another way for Serkis to return is that he could play a different character. Serkis has already done this in the Star Wars franchise, as he originally played Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its sequel, and later played an entirely different character named Kino Loy in the television series Andor. He is more than talented enough to play a wide range of characters in Middle-earth. As more information comes to light about the new Lord of the Rings movies, it will be intriguing to see whether other actors are willing to return as well.
