Ben Affleck’s solo SnyderVerse-set Batman movie gets a unique fan poster that imagines the unmade film in the same style as Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Ben Affleck’s abandoned solo Batman movie gets imagined in a new fan poster made in the style of The Batman. Affleck originally joined the former DCEU as Batman in 2013, becoming the latest actor to portray the actor in live-action following Christian Bale. Affleck would go on to play Batman in 3 DC movies so far – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League – while also returning for reshoots for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Affleck’s solo Batman film was announced in 2016, but never materialized and was later turned into Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson.
Artist Rahal Nejraoui shared a fan poster on Instagram for Affleck’s lost Batman movie, taking inspiration from the recent The Batman film. Affleck’s Batman looms over villains and heroes such as Jared Leto’s Joker and Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon from the also-canceled Batgirl movie. Check out the full fan poster below:
Everything We Know About Ben Affleck’s Planned Batman Movie
Affleck planned to write, direct and star in his canceled Batman movie. Sadly, the actor went through a rough patch in his personal life that led to his decision of stepping away from the project and the stress it would bring to Affleck’s life amid such a personal situation. The actor did leave the Batman movie gradually though, first deciding to step back as its director after having already turned in a script that was rumored to have excited DC executives at the time. After the movie failed to land a director, including an attempt at signing The Batman’s Matt Reeves, the project fizzled, and audiences never got to see what Affleck had planned for the Caped Crusader.
Ever since the Batman movie was canceled, tidbits from Affleck’s script have made their way online and painted a promising picture of what the movie could’ve been. Reeves revealed in an interview ahead of The Batman‘s release that Affleck’s script was rooted deeply in the existing DCEU and presented a James Bond-like story. It seemed Affleck’s story clearly differed greatly from The Batman‘s self-contained character study of Bruce Wayne and his alter ego. The Batman movie with Affleck’s story would’ve also included Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke as the main villain.
How Ben Affleck Could Return As Batman In James Gunn’s DCU
After quitting, it seemed that Affleck was done as Batman for good. However, he shocked fans by signing on to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in not one, but two upcoming DC movies. Affleck will make cameos in 2023’s The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, two movies still part of the now extinct DCEU. New DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have rebranded the franchise to DCU and are actively planning how to reboot the DC Universe. Gunn took to social media to announce he’s searching for a project in the DCU for Affleck to direct. As it stands, Affleck is poised to make his last appearances as Batman for the time being in 2023 before moving on to a behind the scenes role for the future of the DCU. However, if Gunn and Safran find a way to keep certain iterations of heroes around, Affleck could make additional appearances in the DCU. Only time will tell.
