Christian Bale addresses whether he would be open to returning to the MCU in a different role after playing Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder. Marking the second last Marvel movie to be released during Phase 4, Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder was met with mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics, with particular praise levied at Bale’s villain. The movie picks up not long after Avengers: Endgame, with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) struggling to find his place in the world. The Norse-inspired hero is eventually forced to team up with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie in order to defeat Gorr the God Butcher,

Who Else Christian Bale Could Play In The MCU

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises.

Gorr sports a very distinct look in Thor: Love and Thunder, meaning it actually could be relatively seamless if Bale were to return to the MCU looking more like his regular self. After playing such a dark villain, it would be interesting to see the former Batman actor take on more of a heroic role. Marvel Comics has been around for over 80 years, in one form or another, meaning there’s certainly no shortage of potential characters for Bale to play. While the actor has shown off his comedic side before, he generally seems drawn to slightly more serious characters, meaning a hero like Sentry, essentially Marvel’s equivalent to Superman, might be a good fit.

Many fans would undoubtedly be thrilled to see Bale take on the role of a Marvel hero, but there are also a number of villains who have yet to make their big-screen debut in the MCU. With Marvel’s Fantastic Four slated to release in 2025, the introduction of Doctor Doom may soon be in the cards. With his powerful screen presence, Bale would make for a strong Doctor Doom, and the character’s power level might mean that the role will require more than just one movie appearance. Instead of a straight hero or a straight villain, Bale could also return as one of Marvel’s many anti-heroes such as Ghost Rider or Solo, a highly trained mercenary.

It remains to be seen if Bale will indeed return to the MCU after his role in Thor: Love and Thunder, but the actor is evidently open to the idea. Gorr the God Butcher is one of the strongest parts of Waititi’s latest MCU venture meaning Bale’s return to the franchise in a different role likely wouldn’t be met with much pushback from fans. It doesn’t sound like anything is in the works just yet, but Marvel’s vast catalog of heroes, villains, and everything in between means it’s certainly possible that another partnership comes to fruition at some point in the future.
