Creed 3’s Adonis & Bianca Went To Real Couples Therapy In Character

Creed 3 star Tessa Thompson reveals that she and costar/ director Michael B. Jordan went to couples therapy as Bianca and Adonis, respectively, to prepare for the latest sequel. After the success of 2015’s Creed and its 2018 sequel, Jordan took on directing duties for the third outing. The latest installment, which has earned strong reviews, sees Jordan’s Adonis facing off against former childhood friend Damian, played by Jonathan Majors.

In a recent interview with Refinery29, Thompson recalls going to couples therapy with Jordan as a means of digging into their characters for Creed 3. The actor reveals that due to the personal aspects that both she and Jordan were bringing to their characters, the line between their roles and their real lives sometimes got a little hazy. “Yes, in character, but it ended up being like — the line sometimes between character and us get blurred because we bring so much of what we’re exploring personally to the characters in general. So funnily, it was the first time…. I’m probably saying too much. I’ll say it was an early experience in couples therapy for us both [personally], but it was as these characters, which is very weird. But I think it reminded us of our own personal lives that going to therapy, even when a relationship is good, can be a good thing if you’re trying to just sharpen communication and figure out how someone works. It’s useful in so many relationships.”

What’s Next For Adonis & Bianca After Creed 3?

After the franchise built out their relationship in the previous two installments, Creed 3 sees Adonis and Bianca with a new daughter, Amara. As with the two previous movies, the events of Creed 3 put a strain on Adonis and Bianca’s relationship, but the duo does eventually get their happy ending by the time the credits roll. In fact, the movie as a whole acts as a fitting conclusion to Adonis’ larger saga that began in 2015.

Creed 4 has not yet gotten the official green light, but Creed 3‘s impressive box office performance and Jordan’s enthusiasm for a sequel means another franchise installment is likely. Even if a direct sequel doesn’t happen, Jordan has also expressed interest in expanding the world of the films in other ways. This could mean a spinoff movie focusing on a new character or perhaps even a TV show could move forward.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Adonis and Bianca, but it’s possible that, should a spinoff focusing on a new character move forward, Jordan’s character could return to serve as a mentor just like Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky did for him. If Adonis returns in a supporting capacity, it’s certainly also possible that Bianca can as well. However, the positive reception to Creed 3 means Adonis and Bianca could very well take center stage in their very own fourth movie as Jordan’s champion faces off against a new challenger.
