The Evil Dead Rise premiere featured an angry heckler yelling at director Lee Cronin and the movie’s stars, and Bruce Campbell wasn’t having it. After Fede Álvarez’s reboot in 2013, the world of Sam Raimi’s movies returns in Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise. The latest sequel, which serves as more of a continuation of the original trilogy than a follow-up to the reboot, follows two estranged sisters as they fight for their lives in a cramped L.A. apartment complex when an ancient book awakens a group of flesh-eating demons.
Ahead of the Evil Dead Rise release date next month, the sequel recently premiered at SXSW, and the post-screening Q&A was, unfortunately, disrupted by a heckler. Check out Campbell’s reaction to the outburst in the video shared by Let Me Explain below:
After being approached by a venue staffer, the heckler becomes angry and yells, “This movie f—ing sucks!” When the individual gives everyone on stage the finger, which includes Cronin, stars Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan, and Raimi, Campbell bluntly tells the heckler to “Get the f–k out of here.”
Will Bruce Campbell Ever Return As Evil Dead’s Ash Williams?
Released in 1981, The Evil Dead introduced audiences to Williams for the first time, and the hero quickly became a horror icon. Williams would return in Evil Dead II in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1993, but Campbell wouldn’t reprise the role until his very brief cameo during the post-credits scene of 2013’s Evil Dead. Following this brief cameo, Campbell returned for Ash vs Evil Dead, a TV show that ran for three seasons on Starz.
Following the conclusion of the show, Campbell, who is now 64, announced that he had retired as Williams. Although Campbell was seemingly done with the role, Raimi, who continues to serve as an executive producer for the Evil Dead franchise, recently expressed his hope to direct another movie with Campbell returning as the character. Campbell then walked back some of his earlier claims, saying that he would consider returning as the character, but only if Raimi directs the project.
With both Raimi and Campbell seemingly interested in at least one more team-up in the world of Evil Dead, the biggest deciding factor will seemingly be how the latest movie performs at the box office. Evil Dead Rise‘s early reactions have been very positive, with critics praising the movie’s tone and ultra-gory violence. If the latest sequel ends up being a hit, it’s certainly possible that audiences will see Campbell return as his iconic Deadite-slaying hero.
