The popular review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes is known for either presenting a movie with the accolade of “fresh” or the undesired “rotten” label, which helps influence moviegoers’ decision to watch a movie. On Rotten Tomatoes, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently the second-lowest rated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie with critics, at 48 percent, while the movie’s audience score stands at a very positive 84 percent. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has broken a trend in the MCU — due to its mixed reception — making the movie one of the few third entries in a trilogy that are not regarded as the best movie of a hero’s franchise. However, as the audience score suggests, there is plenty to like in the movie.

What Does Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Get Right?

While audiences are just now getting a chance to see the movie, negative critic reviews have been circulating for days before Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was released, possibly tainting many moviegoers’ perception of the film. However, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania closing in on Eternals‘ negative Rotten Tomatoes score is shocking, as there is a lot to be enjoyed in the new Ant-Man adventure.

Kang is an easy standout, with the majority of both critics and moviegoers sharing the opinion that Jonathan Majors excels in the role and should be a great foe for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to fight in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, he is not the only character who gets their time to shine. While title heroes like Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne get very little to do in the movie, her mother — Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne — gets her time in the spotlight. Janet’s MCU connection to Kang adds an interesting aspect to the movie, with Pfeiffer delivering a strong performance in the role.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also features the MCU debut of the villain MODOK. The character looks very comic book accurate, although the movie decided to take a different approach to MODOK’s origin, switching up the scientist George Tarleton from the comics for Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also manages to fulfill its title’s promise, with the movie presenting an interesting exploration of the Quantum Realm, complete with breathtaking visuals and wacky alien-like characters. While the film does spend a lot of timing setting up future MCU movies, some Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reviews might be missing the fun to be had on this one.
