Kevin Feige Reveals Kang’s Real Motivation In Ant-Man 3

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reveals Kang the Conqueror’s real motivations in director Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

After his variant, He Who Remains debuted in Loki, Kevin Feige reveals Kang’s real motivations in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Played by Jonathan Majors, Marvel Studios are set to debut the Multiverse Saga’s big bad in the upcoming Peyton Reed-directed threequel. The actor says that the upcoming villain is inspired by Alexander the Great, but beyond that, it’s unknown what his real agenda is in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania — until now.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Trapped in the Quantum Realm, Kang comes face to face with Team Ant-Man after Scott, Hope, Janet, Hank, and Cassie get sucked into the dimension. Trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania show the Conqueror having to strong-arm Ant-Man into doing a job for him, but specifics about it are unclear. While Marvel Studios are still keeping those details tightly under wraps, Feige tells Empire Magazine (via The Direct) Kang’s real motivations in Ant-Man 3. Read his full quote below:

“Kang’s a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back. He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and anywhen he wants if he can get it online. If only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles.”

What To Expect From Ant-Man 3’s Kang

Jonathan Majors as Kang firing blue lasers in Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania

While Marvel Studios are keeping specific details about the Conqueror’s situation, Majors has previously revealed information about the character. The actor said that in some ways, Thanos inspired his approach to Kang, which means that there was a conscious effort to humanize the villain. That doesn’t reveal what Kang’s end goal in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be, but it’s safe to say that once he gets out of the Quantum Realm and regains his powers after being stripped of them, he intends to continue wreaking havoc in the multiverse.

Not having the full extent of his capabilities effectively explains why Kang needs to strike a deal with Scott Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This is actually a great way to incorporate the Conqueror in the established MCU sub-franchise considering that Scott has doing odd jobs involving his skills a thief has been a running trope in Reed’s Marvel movies. That being said, as seen in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s latest trailer, their partnership goes awry leading to a slugfest.

What’s Next For Kang In The MCU

Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3

Regardless of what happens in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Kang the Conqueror’s future in the MCU has already been decided. The villain is confirmed to co-headline his own film in Destin Cretton’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Beyond that, there’s also an expectation that he will somehow pop up in Loki season 2, which is due this year. Whether it will be this version of Kang who will be on the Disney+ series is unknown, however, as the God of Mischief could once again deal with a variant. Kang could also play a factor in Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four film, and even Ms. Marvel season 2 and Shang-Chi 2 in light of a new theory that links them to the Conqueror.
