New Details About Michael Keaton’s Older Batman In The Flash Movie Revealed

The Flash will feature the return of Michael Keaton as his version of Bruce Wayne from the Tim Burton movies, and a new reveal through a line of toys shares more information on what role the older Batman will play in the DC movie. Keaton will don the cowl for the first time since he last played the role in 1992’s Batman Returns. The Flash will present a multiverse story with Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen that will see him travel to an alternate universe that is home to Keaton’s Batman. However, the Dark Knight will be in very a different place than audiences last saw him.

The Toyark shared new looks at a toy line from McFarlane Toys for The Flash, which included a description for Keaton’s return as Batman. According to the description, The Flash will see Miller’s Barry Allen find Keaton’s Batman in an alternate 2013, while looking for Ben Affleck’s version of the Dark Knight. Keaton’s Bruce Wayne has retired from being Batman for a long time — which explains the dusty state of his Batcave in the trailers — and has to don the cowl once more to save the multiverse. Check out the full description below:

When Barry Allen arrives in an alternate 2013, he urgently seeks out the expertise of his friend and mentor Bruce Wayne – but the one he finds in the Multiverse is different on all fronts: older, long-retired from service as Gotham City’s protector and somehow even more hardened than the billionaire superhero Barry has grown to know. With a global threat on the horizon, Bruce Wayne must decide whether he can become Batman once more.

How Michael Keaton’s Batman Differs From Ben Affleck’s

The Flash‘s description for Keaton’s Batman role brings some interesting comparisons to Affleck’s version of the brooding hero. Both versions of the hero are older veterans of a life of superhero work. However, the multiple Batman actors in The Flash movie appear to allow for a deeper exploration on how much damage a life as Batman might cause to a human being.

Ever since Affleck’s Batman debuted, he has always been referred to as the most violent and somber version of the character in live-action. The description of Keaton’s Batman in The Flash reveals this older Bruce Wayne is even more hardened than Affleck’s. That information lines up with The Flash‘s recent trailer, which was released during this year’s Super Bowl, that saw Keaton’s Batman fight more viciously than he ever did in the pair of movies the actor starred in. The first The Flash trailer confirmed Keaton’s big role in the movie, which the Super Bowl trailer contrasted with new scenes featuring Affleck’s Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Each Batman actors’ roles in the film should make the differences between their versions of the character evident. The new The Flash trailer showed that even though the movie will feature a hardened version of Keaton’s Batman, the actor is still delivering his dialogue with the same sense of snark he employed in the couple of movies he starred in, which contrasts with Affleck’s more stern delivery. Keaton’s signature Batwing was also seen in the trailer, but The Flash remains to show if the older Batman will have created more gadgets to rival Affleck’s more technologically advanced Caped Crusader, before both Batman actors appear again in Aquaman 2.
