Official Title Revealed, Filming Start Confirmed And Tom Holland Calls It A “Fresh Start” For Peter Parker

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 has received a significant title. After a long time with little to no updates due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next entry in its popular Spider-Man movie franchise has finally received a major update. Director Destin Daniel Cretton and star Tom Holland confirmed that the film is named after a well-known period in Peter Parker’s Marvel Comics history, and it happens to fit what Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending set up for the future of the cinematic franchise.

At CinemaCon, where ScreenRant is in attendance, Sony has revealed that Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie will be called Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

According to Holland, the film will be a “fresh start” to the franchise after the Spider-Man: No Way Home cliffhanger. Cretton also confirmed that the MCU movie is “in full prep right now” and that the plan is for the upcoming Spider-Man movie to start filming in the summer. A slight release date change was announced, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day now moves from its original July 24, 2026, release slot to July 31, 2026.

What The Spider-Man 4 Updates Mean

The MCU Movie Is Taking Inspiration From A Rocky Marvel Comics Period

Holland’s first Spider-Man trilogy had a theme that ran through the titles of all three films. As Spider-Man was coming home to Marvel Studios, the hero’s movies all had variations of “Home” in their titles, ranging from Homecoming to Far From Home to No Way Home. The first takeaway from Spider-Man Brand New Day is that it breaks that trend, forging a new path for Peter Parker in the MCU as its name suggests, which is what Holland has said is in play for the new Spider-Man movie.

After The MCU Spider-Man 4’s Latest Casting Update I’m Convinced Zendaya’s MJ Is Getting Replaced

Spider-Man 4’s first major casting and other reports increase the chances of Zendaya’s MJ being replaced by another love interest for Peter Parker.

The other main takeaway from the tile reveal is that the MCU movie will pull a page from a comic book story of the same name. After the infamous “One More Day” erased Peter and Mary Jane Watson’s marriage in a deal with Mephisto to revive an elderly Aunt May came “Brand New Day.” The story served as a reset for the Marvel hero, though it failed to bring as much excitement as Peter’s days with MJ. Like the comics, the MCU’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day can introduce new villains and supporting players for Holland’s Peter Parker going forward.

Our Take On The Spider-Man 4 Updates

The MCU’s Move Makes Sense For The Franchise

While I know the connection to the comics is not the greatest, I think Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the perfect title for the film. The comic book story also had everyone forgetting who Spider-Man was behind the mask, so with Doctor Strange’s spell in No Way Home, it is fitting. I’m also excited by how this makes it more likely that the scope of the reboot for the franchise will be larger, with a new set of supporting players and villains. While I liked Ned and MJ, I think it’s time for a change in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
