The Kang Dynasty, Producer Explains

Exclusive: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania producer Stephen Broussard breaks down the larger MCU implications of the mid-credit scene.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania producer Stephen Broussard explains the larger MCU implications of the mid-credit scene. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania officially introduces Kang the Conqueror into the MCU as the next major threat for the Avengers, with multiversal and time travel abilities. Two variants of Kang have been explored within the MCU, but the mid-credit scene sets the stage for the astronomical threat he presents with the introduction of The Council of Kangs.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Broussard teases the larger implications of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s mid-credit scene on the MCU. He explains why the scene speaks to the endless possibilities that surround Kang. Broussard also reveals that Destin is already working on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Stephen Broussard: I think the biggest is spoilery territory. It’s that mid-credits tag. You’ve met versions of this character that Jonathan plays in Loki, you’ve seen him in the body [of] this film, and you see a little bit of tag at the end of where it’s going.

What that tag says to me, as far as the larger implications, is possibility. This character, who can be anything and is formidable and dangerous in any guise you’ve seen him [in] so far, there is an infinitude of them out there. It’s really interesting where it can all go.

The torch has been passed. I would not presume to tell the movie that Destin should be making, but I know they’re hard at work on that. And clearly, Kang is in the title of that. Expect the unexpected with Kang, which is what’s exciting to me because of how varied each version has been.

What The Council Of Kangs Means After Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania

Council of Kangs in Marvel Comics

Kang the Conqueror and He Who Remains demonstrated immense power, and they may have been the only ones holding back the real danger. He Who Remains actively kept the MCU’s “sacred timeline” separate from the multiverse, and Kang the Conqueror was a foe the Council did not want to cross again. The mid-credit scene brings three other major Kang variants into the picture, namely Immortus, Rama Tut, and Scarlet Centurion, before showing the endless sea of variants that make up the Council.

The trio summoned the rest of the Council after discovering that Kang the Conqueror, who had been trapped in the Quantum Realm, had been killed. They’ve taken note of the MCU heroes breaking down the walls of the multiverse, and with their main threat eliminated, Scott Lang may have set up the most dangerous threat the Avengers have ever faced. The mid-credit scene notably establishes the three other Kang variants, who are likely even more deadly than their now-dead counterparts and will play a major role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Kang has a unique connection to time and the multiverse, not experiencing it the same way that others do. Jonathan Majors has described Kang as a Nexus Being, which could put him on a similar power level as Wanda after she stepped into her Scarlet Witch power. Kang is the next major threat in the MCU, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s mid-credit scene captures the threat that these variants pose in intelligence, connection to the multiverse, power, and sheer numbers.
