Twister 2 Casts Where The Crawdads Sing Star In Reboot’s Lead Role

Twisters is currently circling the star of the literary adaptation Where the Crawdads Sing for a lead role. The film, which is being helmed by Minari director Lee Isaac Chung, is a reboot of the iconic 1996 hit Twister, which followed an estranged pair of storm chasers played by Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. The new film won’t feature any returning characters or storylines and is set to premiere in theaters on July 19, 2024.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Daisy Edgar-Jones is currently in talks to take a lead role in Twisters. The role that she will be playing in the film is currently unspecified. This will be her first major film role since 2022’s Where the Crawdads Sing, which was the 32nd highest-grossing film of that year ahead of titles including Scream 2022 and Death on the Nile.

Why Casting Daisy Edgar-Jones Would Be a Good Move for Twisters

While Twisters is not intended to be a legacy sequel, it will likely share an atmosphere with the original film. Being an Amblin production, Twister 1996 had a very special combination of tones and themes. In addition to being a harrowing disaster movie, it was also a heartfelt divorce drama and an engaging popcorn film.

Luckily, Edgar-Jones has proven her ability to work within whatever tones Twisters will require of her in that regard. Her 2020 breakout role on the Irish TV drama Normal People has proven her facility with performing a complicated and layered romance. However, she has also shown off her chops as a genre performer in the 2022 cannibal thriller Fresh, which also starred Sebastian Stan.

It remains to be seen if Twisters ultimately locks the star into a role. However, if she officially inks a deal it would be a huge boon. As a rising star with a similar trajectory to her Normal People co-star Paul Mescal (who was just nominated for an Oscar), she would certainly bring a lot of eyes to the project.
