Zachary Levi’s New Feel-Good Movie Can’t Break His Poor Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Zachary Levi’s New Feel-Good Movie Can’t Break His Poor Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Zachary Levi‘s new feel-good movie can’t break his poor Rotten Tomatoes streak. The actor is perhaps best known for starring as the titular Chuck Bartowski on the NBC series Chuck, which aired for five seasons from 2007 to 2012. He is also well-known for playing the titular superhero in the DCEU’s Shazam, starting in 2019, and reprising the role for the 2023 sequel subtitled Fury of the Gods. Levi has also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Fandral in Thor: The Dark World and Ragnarok.

However, in the past two years, Levi’s live-action projects haven’t seen much success. Starting in 2023, Shazam! Fury of the Gods garnered mixed reviews from critics, who considered it worse than its predecessor, resulting in a 49% Rotten Tomatoes score, and was also a box office bomb. That same year, he starred in Netflix’s Spy Kids: Armageddon, which also received mixed reviews, resulting in a slightly better but still Rotten 56% score. In 2024, Levi starred in Harold and the Purple Crayon, which was excoriated by critics, earning a terrible 27% score, and was also a box-office bomb.

The cast also includes Jacob Laval, Meghann Fahy, Peter Facinelli, Drew Powell, Gavin Warren, Patricia Heaton, and Amy Acker.

What The Unbreakable Boy’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For Zachary Levi

It Continues His Poor Rotten Tomatoes Streak

The Unbreakable Boy‘s Rotten Tomatoes score continues Zachary Levi’s poor streak, as all his live-action releases since 2021 have been Rotten, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods (49%), Spy Kids: Armageddon (56%), and Harold and the Purple Crayon (27%). However, within this same timeframe, Levi has found some success voice acting, with Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood (91%), Teddy’s Christmas (60%), and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (83%) all earning Fresh scores.

Levi’s poor Rotten Tomatoes streak also happens to coincide with the actor becoming quite a controversial figure for his polarizing political views, including his avid support of President Donald Trump and anti-vaccine sentiments. Overall, the reaction to Zachary Levi‘s latest projects has been clear – critics and audiences have soundly rejected him as a lead star, and if his success with animation is any indication, he should probably stick to voice acting.

The Unbreakable Boy is now showing in theaters.
