Marvel star Charlie Cox confesses he didn’t know Daredevil existed before playing the MCU hero in Netflix’s Daredevil series. Charlie Cox has played Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil for ten years now, from his debut in Netflix’s first Daredevil season in 2015 to Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again in 2025. While Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has only appeared in three MCU titles so far, he has already gathered a massive fanbase that puts him on par with other beloved Marvel portrayals, and his MCU future looks bright as Daredevil: Born Again season 2 heads into production.

During the Daredevil: Born Again panel at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024, Charlie Cox was asked whether he was interested in playing Daredevil before being cast as the character for Netflix’s Daredevil season 1. Cox responded honestly, admitting that he had “never heard of him”. Bullseye actor Wilson Bethel confesses he also didn’t know his Marvel villain existed prior to his antagonist role in Daredevil season 3. Check out both actors’ comments below (at the 13:56 mark):

Charlie Cox: “I didn’t even know about him. I’d never heard of him. I genuinely, like, when you said ‘Daredevil’ I thought you were talking about a noun. Like a mountaineer or a rock climber or like someone who jumps through fire hoops on a motorcycle. You know, that’s who I thought Daredevil was.”

Wilson Bethel: “Same answer, yeah. I didn’t know Bullseye was a thing.”
