Did Bruce Campbell Voice Satan In The Invincible Season 3 Finale? Co-Showrunner Addresses Upcoming Hell Storyline

Invincible co-showrunner Simon Racioppa has addressed the show’s upcoming Hell storyline, and whether Bruce Campbell voiced Satan in the season 3 finale. Invincible season 3’s mid-credits scene in the final episode saw the return of Damien Darkblood (Clancy Brown), the demon previously investigating Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) in season 1 before Cecil (Walton Goggins) sent him back to Hell. The scene shows him promising another, more powerful demon (Bruce Campbell) rule over Hell, using someone powerful from Earth to get it done. This storyline isn’t in the comics, leading to speculation, including if Campbell’s character is actually Satan.

Speaking with ScreenRant at our WonderCon media suite, Racioppa explained the excitement surrounding Invincible‘s Hell storyline. Explaining how it came from an unused idea Robert Kirkman had for the comic, the co-creator explained the flexibility of being able to introduce unused stories from the source material through the show’s lens. When asked about whether Campbell’s character was Satan, however, he didn’t confirm nor deny anything. Check out what Racioppa had to say below:

ScreenRant: I do want to talk about the tease of the potential Hell storyline because that has a lot of fans buzzing. How did the idea of finally exploring that unused comic storyline come about?

Simon Racioppa: Robert is a huge part of the show, and in a lot of cases, there are beats in the show that come about after talking to him. He’ll say, “I never got a chance to do this in the books, but I always thought that character’s backstory was this and this and this.” And we’re like, “That’s great. Let’s put that in the show now.” So, a lot of that stuff comes from Robert.

He has headcanons – I mean, it is canon because it’s him – of other things that never made it on the page. The Hell story is an example of him being like, “There was this story I always wanted to do for Invincible, but I kind of lost track of it. I never got a chance to do it, and things moved on, and then I couldn’t go back and do it.” Why not do it on the show now? That’s a great example of that. [Comic fans] are getting a lost issue.

ScreenRant: Can you confirm if Bruce Campbell’s demon character is actually Satan, or will we have to wait and see?

Simon Racioppa: I think you’ll have to wait and see! Bruce is incredible, though. He’s great. You’re going to love it. You’re going to love it, but I can’t tell you that.

What Invincible’s New Storyline Means For Season 4

The Comics Are Getting A Whole New Expansion

Invincible season 3 ended with Mark (Steven Yeun) deciding he can’t be merciful towards his enemies anymore, telling Oliver (Christian Convery) he’ll kill anyone who threatens their family. This change came after Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) nearly killed Eve (Gillian Jacobs), signaling a darker turn for the protagonist going forward. The upcoming Hell storyline will follow this change, though it’s currently unclear, if the powerful figure Damien is referring to is actually the main character – even though he probably is. This new story will expand on the show by offering a story Kirkman wanted to fit into the original comic.

Invincible’s 10 Best Episodes (So Far)

Invincible has been a consistently quality series ever since it premiered in 2021, but these ten episodes manage to just beat out the others.

As for Campbell’s role, it appears his exact story is being kept under wraps for now. While he doesn’t confirm nor deny that his character is Satan, Racioppa’s praise for the voice actor hints at his importance during Invincible season 4, signaling he very well could be the typical ruler of Hell. Since this is a wholly new story, there’s no way to predict if he’s playing the actual demonic figure, or if he’s simply a powerful demon hoping to usurp a throne that’s rightfully his. The answer, it seems, won’t arrive until he and Damien return.

Our Take On Invincible’s New Demon Character & Hell Storyline

The Show’s Big Risk Will Probably Pay Off

Invincible Season 3 Damien Darkblood eyes glowing

While there’s risk in shaking up the superhero show when it’s followed the comics fairly faithfully so far, it sounds like the Hell storyline will be a memorable addition to the show. If Campbell’s character really is Satan, then it will be interesting should Damien recruit Mark in order to get him back onto his throne. The new Invincible story still has plenty of time to develop, though, meaning the exact details of what’s going on will have to wait until the series returns.

Invincible season 4 doesn’t have a release window yet, but co-creator Robert Kirkman says he hopes for it to come back sometime in 2026.
