One of the most memorable stars of YOU explains their absence from season 5. After a run that began in September 2018, starting on Lifetime and then moving to Netflix, the adaptation of the Caroline Kepnes novels debuted its final episodes in April. It is no big spoiler to say that Penn Badgley’s Joe Goldberg got a measure of what he deserved. But even though YOU season 5 includes a montage of cameos, Victoria Pedretti’s Love Quinn was not seen in any flashbacks or hallucinations.
Prior to the premiere of YOU season 5, Pedretti briefly addressed her absence from the psychological thriller. Responding to viewers that were hoping to see Love in the final season, Pedretti revealed that she’s not a part of it. When asked by another commenter about if she was at least asked to return, Pedretti replies: “Nope.” The exchange is included below, via Captial FM:
What Love Quinn’s Absence Means For YOU Season 5
The Character Might Have Made Things Messy
Love does get namedropped a bit en route to the YOU season 5 ending. But given that the last episodes are so zeroed in on Joe’s past sins, with cameos from several of his doomed exes, some viewers found it strange that there was no room for Pedretti to reprise her role. It’s especially odd, considering the season also puts its focus on the child that Love Quinn gave birth to. Henry (played by Frankie DeMaio) and his relationship with his father Joe is a big thread throughout the season.

7 Ways You Season 5 Brings Joe’s Season 1 Story Full Circle
You season 5 brought things back to the basics by paralleling the tone of season 1, ultimately bringing Joe’s story full circle in the perfect way.
There have been some justifications for why Love is mentioned, though unseen. The season builds to Joe getting what his comeuppance from the women he abused. Love was hurt by Joe, who ultimately killed her. But like him, she was a manipulative killer. Her presence might have muddied the narrow goal that YOU season 5 was trying to achieve. This, too, is not a complete justification since season 4 included a Love hallucination to demonstrate that Joe is still haunted by his ex.
Our Take On Pedretti’s Absence From YOU
It Doesn’t Really Work
The thriller’s final season, in general, tries to keep things too neat in a way that isn’t fully supported by the show’s history. It welcomes back Elizabeth Lail as Guinevere Beck, which is a nice touch, but it tries to paint her as the original sin that Joe committed. The truth is, Joe had already tried to kill a woman, Candance Stone (played by Ambyr Childers), before he even met Beck. It could have been better to welcome Love back among YOU‘s characters and embrace a little complexity.
