Good Omens Season 3’s Creative Changes Addressed By David Tennant After Neil Gaiman Allegations

David Tennant weighs in on the behind-the-scenes changes surrounding Good Omens‘ finale, addressing how the Prime Video series’ final chapter has changed creatively in the wake of Neil Gaiman’s exit amidst serious allegations against the author. The television series’ debut season adapted the 1990 novel penned by Terry Pratchett and the aforementioned disgraced author, which explores the relationship between an angel and a demon set on averting the apocalypse. Tennant plays the demon Crowley in Good Omens, a soft-hearted Fallen Angel who finds himself growing closer to Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale.

As Tennant took part in ITV’s The Assembly (via The Independent), the actor was asked how he felt about the serious allegations levied against Gaiman, and their effects on himself and the series. Weighing in on the behind-the-scenes adjustments, Tennant states that he feels that leaving the story on a cliffhanger would have been unsatisfactory for all, leaving him relieved that they were able to find a way forward without relying on Gaiman. Check out Tennant’s full response below:

We’re doing Good Omens again. We’re going back to do the final. We’re doing a final. There’s been a slight rejig with the personnel. But we still get to tell that story – I think it would have been very difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger. So I’m glad that’s been worked out.”

The Author’s Alleged Crimes Have Had A Ripple Effect On Several Projects

Allegations against Gaiman have affected several productions, as in the wake of several victims sharing their experiences with the author, several projects have either been brought to a sudden conclusion or cancelled early in development. Within the world of publishing, the ongoing comic-book adaptation of Anansi Boys was cancelled by Dark Horse Comics, The Sandman was confirmed to conclude with season 2, and Disney’s adaptation of The Graveyard Book was halted.

It’s all change at Good Omens season 3, but simply hitting a few key notes can ensure the continuation of season 2’s mind-bending success.

Much like The Sandman, Good Omens‘ final season was well into production when allegations first broke in July 2024, meaning that much of the work had been put into the season already. Though Gaiman had stepped away from the production, the episode count was reduced to a single feature-length finale. It is unclear if the writer will receive credit for his contributions. However, with his position as an executive producer being rescinded and distance being established from the author, it is likely Gaiman will play no part in promoting the new season.

Gaiman’s allegations had an incredible impact across the entertainment industry due to his large presence across several mediums, as such, the severity of his alleged crimes has forced many to reckon with his place within it. For Good Omens, this has seen those behind the production take the necessary steps to minimize his involvement, while fans have followed by condemning the author and choosing to instead celebrate Pratchett’s role in creating their beloved characters. Though Tennant may not have directly commented on Gaiman, it is clear that he and the crew are dedicated to providing a satisfying conclusion.
