Grimm Reboot Movie In Development With Original Team 8 Years After Satisfying Series Finale

A Grimm reboot movie is being developed for Peacock. The original Grimm series aired from 2011-2017 on NBC and follows homicide detective Nicholas Burkhardt (David Giuntoli). He learns that he is from an ancient line of guardians known as the Grimms, who keep the balance between humans and mythological creatures known as Wesen. All of Grimm‘s six seasons are supernatural horror while also being a procedural police show, a genre combination that proved to be effective during the series’ run.

As reported by Deadline, a Grimm reboot movie is now in development at Peacock, written by Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman. He will executive produce the reboot alongside Grimm‘s co-creators and showrunners Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt. The reboot’s premise has not been revealed yet, but will reportedly have connections to the original series while still being accessible to newcomers, and there are hopes of it launching a larger franchise.

What This Means For Grimm

Grimm’s World Is Set To Further Expand

The dark fantasy world of Grimm is set to continue for the first time since the series concluded with a satisfying finale eight years ago. Having the movie be a reboot instead of a direct continuation can be an effective way of preserving Grimm‘s ending while still expanding the original show’s world. Giuntoli could reprise his role as Nick, even if he is no longer the protagonist, but the reboot could also focus on a different Grimm and their conflict with the Wesen.

David Giuntoli starred in ABC’s A Million Little Things after Grimm ended.

While there are many powerful monsters in Grimm, and some familiar ones could return to the reboot, there are also plenty of compelling monsters from mythology and from fairy tales that could be incorporated. With the budget of a movie instead of a television series, the monsters can also look even more terrifying than they did in the original series. It will be intriguing to see how the procedural aspect of Grimm will or will not translate into a movie.

Our Take On The Grimm Reboot

It Is Poised To Be A Worthy Successor

David Giuntoli

With Grimm being one of the all-time best paranormal procedural shows, there is immense potential in it being rebooted as a movie. The involvement of key figures from the original Grimm‘s creative team is a promising sign and should help ensure that the satisfying series finale is not undermined in any way. The balance of being tied to the original show while being accessible for newcomers also sounds like a smart approach. The procedural nature of Grimm may not work as well in a movie, but it is nonetheless exciting to know that the show’s universe is continuing.
