The reboot of Prison Break has cast three actors, revealing the first character details. The new iteration of the mid-2000s crime drama hails from Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James and has a pilot order at Hulu. According to reports, the Prison Break reboot takes place in the same overall universe as the original. However, it won’t feature the leading duo of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The potential series hails from 20th Television, counting original series creator Paul Scheuring among the executive producers alongside veteran producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz.
Deadline confirms that Emily Browning, Lukas Gage and Drake Rodger have been cast as regulars in the Prison Break reboot. Browning, known for her roles in Sucker Punch, The Uninvited, and the television adaptation of American Gods, will portray Cassidy Collins. An ex-soldier turned corrections officer, Collins takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America.
Gage, a rising star with recent roles in The White Lotus season 1, YOU season 4, and the horror hit Smile 2, will portray Jackson. A politician from a well-to-do background, Jackson is in the midst of his first congressional campaign. Rodger, who played John Winchester in The Winchesters and had a small guest turn in Landman, has the role of Tommy. An inmate at one of the deadliest prisons, Tommy was incarcerated ten years ago.
What The New Casting Means For Prison Break
A Somewhat Younger Take
Specific plot details about the reboot remain unannounced. But based at least on the ages of the first three performers, which range from the mid-20s to the mid-30s, it does seem like the updated Hulu take could be favoring a younger Prison Break cast. That is especially true in the case of Rodger, who played Dakota Loving, the boyfriend of Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley Norris in two episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s oil drama Landman, since it sounds like his character went behind bars when he was only a teenager or potentially before then.

There was a previous report about some of the characters likely to appear in the reboot. The report mentioned that there will be some focus on a prison that has seen only one escape in 100 years. It was also mentioned that the new characters will include a pregnant inmate. That may be tweaked slightly. For example, Gage’s character was originally reported to be a senate hopeful and not a congressman.
Our Take On The Prison Break Casting So Far
It’s Worth A Shot
The original Prison Break already had its ending. Original actors could still be swayed to reprise their roles down the line, especially if the project turns out to be a success. The pilot, all the same, seems to signal an altered focus with this casting. The reboot is still a long way from happening, depending on if Hulu picks up the pilot to series, but this is the first sense of what the story could look like.
