I Can’t Believe The Daily Show Just Explained How Sith Create A Red Lightsaber

Thanks to President Trump’s AI-generated Star Wars post on May the Fourth, The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart hilariously felt the need to explain the nature of red lightsabers and how they’re created by Sith Lords. Over the galactic holiday weekend, the White House’s official socials posted an image of the President to celebrate May the Fourth (and take some shots at the radical left). However, the image itself sparked some humorous confusion from those clearly more familiar with the galaxy far, far away.

On the same day President Trump announced his intentions to somehow tariff movies, the White House posted an image of Trump as what was believed to be a Jedi Knight in honor of Star Wars Day. However, the lightsaber in his hand was red, signifying an allegiance to the dark side of the Force and suggesting instead that Trump was in fact a Sith Lord. Naturally, several Star Wars fans were quick to point out this blunder from the White House, including The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart. Not only that, but Stewart went even further by explaining how red lightsabers are created by the Sith in the established canon:

While played for laughs, Stewart’s explanation is pretty fleshed out and accurate to what’s been established in the Star Wars canon, making the irony of the White House’s mistake even funnier.

Jon Stewart Is Right On The Money About The Sith And Red Lightsabers

Making Things Pretty Ironic…

As seen in notable moments like 2017’s Darth Vader series, Jedi Survivor, and most recently in 2024’s The Acolyte, a red lightsaber is indeed created by making a kyber crystal bleed. This is done when someone corrupted by the dark side, typically a Sith, pours all of their rage, pain, and hate into the crystal. This turns the blade a sinister crimson as it becomes a vessel of the dark side and an extension of the wielder’s darkest emotions.

It’s not surprising in the slightest that Jon Stewart knows this fact about Sith lightsabers, and his further comments about having a collection of Star Wars action figures are likely true as well. After all, Stewart is the canonical namesake for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s homeworld, having once asked George Lucas where the Jedi Master came from and receiving the hilarious, and yet now canon, response: “Stewjon.” While the mistake from the White House has generated some pretty funny reactions online considering the unintended meaning regarding President Trump’s true motives, Stewart’s is by far one of the best.

Stewart also theorizes who the second Sith Lord working with Darth Trump might be as “there are always two” (contenders include Putin, Kim Jong-un, James Corden, and Elmo).
