Happy’s Place co-creator and showrunner Kevin Abbott is working on making another major Reba reunion happen. The 2001 comedy series, starring Reba McEntire as the eponymous character, aired for six seasons and follows the life of a single mother and her children in Houston. Happy’s Place sees McEntire return to broadcast sitcoms and, to the enjoyment of fans, pairs her alongside Melissa Peterman, who portrayed Barbra Jean on Reba. Since its premiere, the show has featured even more reunions, bringing back actors Steve Howey and Christopher Rich for one episode each.
During a recent interview with TV Insider, Abbott, who previously served as showrunner on Reba, teased that he is working on bringing another key star over to Happy’s Place. Abbott expressed interest in having JoAnna Garcia Swisher make a future appearance whenever possible, noting: “We definitely want to bring Joanna [Garcia Swisher] in. We’ve been talking to her. It’s a matter of timing for her.”
What This Means For Happy’s Place
The Series Continues Catering To Fans Of Reba
Including Garcia Swisher in Happy’s Place season 2 would generate excitement among audiences, given her previous role in Reba and on-screen relationship with McEntire. In the earlier series, she portrayed Cheyenne Hart-Mongomery, Reba’s oldest daughter who became pregnant in high school. As the show progressed and Cheyenne evolved, she became a better big sister and grew closer to her mother in the process. Since Reba, Garcia Swisher has appeared in Once Upon a Time and Sweet Magnolias, but with other stars popping up in Happy’s Place, her reunion seems imminent.

Happy’s Place’s Reba Reunion Creates A Character Problem That Needs To Be Fixed
The NBC sitcom Happy’s Place features Reba McEntire teaming back up with one of her Reba costars, but one major issue surrounds the reunion.
Apart from Peterman, the first reunion involved Howey, when he appeared in season 1, episode 7, “Ho-Ho-Howey,” as Gabby’s acquaintance who goes to the bar and seemingly believes her lies about being Bobbie. He even jokes about Reba, claiming that Bobbie and the employees remind him of a family in Houston, made all the more humorous considering that his character, Van Montgomery, married Cheyenne. Rich, who played Brock Hart, the ex-husband of Reba, had a guest role in episode 15, “Sisters Ink,” where he appeared as a tattoo artist. Plenty of references were made to his character as well.
Our Take On The Possible Happy’s Place Reunion
JoAnna Garcia Swisher’s Appearance Should Happen
Keeping in mind the mini-reunions that have already happened on Happy’s Place, it makes sense for Garcia Swisher to appear in season 2 or beyond. Based on Abbott’s latest comments, fans of Reba should maintain some optimism that she will rejoin McEntire and Peterman down the line. Because of the showrunner’s connection to both sitcoms, it is worth wondering whether any more stars, notably Scarlett Pomers and Mitch Holleman, who played Reba’s other children, will eventually follow suit.
