Legacy Star Is Disappointed With Limited Season 3 Appearance, Claims “Amazon Wanted Younger People”

Troy Evans, who plays Barrel Johnson in the Bosch franchise, is disappointed about his limited appearance in Bosch: Legacy. In the original series, Evans’ Detective Johnson and Gregory Scott Cummins’ Detective Robert Moore were long-time partners in the Hollywood Division. Nicknamed Crate and Barrel, the fan-favorite duo’s fate was left unanswered after the Hollywood Division was disbanded in the last season. However, they returned to Bosch: Legacy to work with the titular character (Titus Welliver), though in season 2, they were officially retired.

Per Collider‘s report, the actor responded to a fan’s question on a Bosch Facebook fan page about how much Crate and Barrel they could expect in season 3. He revealed that the detective duo don’t have a lot of screen time and voiced his concern about the studio’s preference for younger actors. Check out what he said below:

Not much Crate and Barrel in Bosch: Legacy Season 3. Amazon wanted younger people. We have like, 4 scenes in 3 seasons. Disappointing.

What This Means For Bosch: Legacy Season 3

Crate And Barrel Plays A Minor Role In Season 3

Crate and Barrel appeared in over 50 episodes in the original Bosch series, and only four episodes so far in the spinoff series. While Bosch: Legacy is set to return on March 27, it sounds like Crate and Barrel’s role will be further reduced in the new season after their official retirement. Season 3 will serve as the last for the spinoff show, with Harry Bosch set to tackle his last case, which explains why Crate and Barrel might have very limited screen time.

Both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy feature amazing characters and character development but out of the entire franchise, only 10 characters stand out.

Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, Desert Star and The Black Ice, the third season, as teased in the Bosch: Legacy trailer, will center on the murder investigation of Kurt Dockweiler, which will force Bosch to confront the limits of justice and his dark past. Meanwhile, Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers) is up for the next District Attorney of Los Angeles, and Maddie gets involved in a home robbery case. With so much going on, there just might not have been enough room for Crate and Barrel.

Our Take On Crate And Barrel’s Role In Bosch: Legacy Season 3

Crate And Barrel Might Be Phased Out Of The Bosch Universe

Crate and Barrell looking at something in the distance in Bosch.

With Bosch’s detective days coming to an end and the two detectives already retired, it makes sense that they don’t have a lot of screen time in Bosch: Legacy season 3. On the other hand, the show wouldn’t sit right with fans without the two making their final appearance working with Bosch on his last case. Legacy marks the end of a chapter for Bosch’s generation, but that doesn’t mean that their journey would necessarily end with the show.

Prime Video has given the green light to the Maggie Q-headlined spinoff series Ballard, following Detective Renee Ballard’s journey as she runs the LAPD’s Cold Case Unit. With the cases likely involving collaborations with retired detectives, Crate and Barrel could be further involved in the Bosch extended universe. However, Evans’ blunt words suggest that certain bridges might have been burned. It’s also possible that Prime Video is using Bosch: Legacy season 3 as a way to phase out the two fan-favorite characters.

Bosch: Legacy season 3 premieres on Thursday, March 27 on Prime Video.
