Matlock Season 2 Update Confirms Whether Julian Will Return Despite Quitting The Firm

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Matlock season 1, episodes 18 & 19!A new Matlock season 2 update has confirmed whether Julian will return to the legal drama despite quitting the firm in the final episodes of season 1. The Matlock season 1 finale revealed that Julian (Jason Ritter) had been in possession of the Wellbrexa documents the entire time, keeping them in a safe deposit box that Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) managed to get access to. This ends with a confrontational cliffhanger between Julia and Olympia, with him wanting to keep his involvement a secret.

Speaking with TVLine, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman revealed that Julian will return in Matlock season 2, despite having quit the firm previously in season 1. While the showrunner sidestepped a question about Olympia possibly going after Senior (Beau Bridges), she did reveal that Julian will have an even bigger role in the next season than ever before. However, she doesn’t say how, leaving the details under wraps for now. Check out what Urman had to say below:

I mean, [going after Senior] is definitely a smart take on what Olympia would want.

Nope, you’re going to get more…. He did just quit the firm. He did just quit the firm. Yes, there are going to be so many things that happen! So many things. [Laughs]

What Urman’s Cryptic Statement Means For Matlock Season 2

Will Julian Be Brought To Justice?

With Julian confirmed to be coming back in Matlock season 2, it seems like the next episodes of the show will reveal what Olympia decides to do. On the one hand, the information he hid may have been able to save Matty’s (Kathy Bates) daughter, but, at the same time, it would bring his career to a bitter end. The pair have been colleagues for a long time, but, if she does decide to hide evidence against him, she’ll also be aiding in covering up a crime her friend lost her daughter because of.

Matlock’s True Villain May Have Been Spoiled Ahead Of The Finale Thanks To A Jason Ritter Update

Jason Ritter has landed a new project in a recurring role, hinting at the way the Wellbrexa villain storyline will end in Matlock season 1.

Since she’s the only one on the cast of Matlock who knows the truth, it’s possible she’ll decide to use him for information instead. If she’s intent on digging deeper into the conspiracy, then keeping him as an informant could work better than punishing him right away. Whether she can convince Matty of this, though, remains to be seen, especially when she’s been investigating for a long time at avenging her daughter. It also depends on the depth of her involvement going forward, especially since the finale ended with someone claiming to be Alfie’s (Aaron Harris) father at her door.

Season 1 ended with plenty of story left for Julian now that his crimes have been revealed, making it clear his role in the larger story is far from over. Even so, the exact nature of what comes next for him remains unknown, especially if he continues to no longer be part of Jacobson Moore. With the major character’s actions finally having been revealed, Matlock season 2 will have plenty to explore, including the path Olympia chooses and what it means for her former friend.
