Netflix Is Removing 6 Of Its Original Shows & Movies In February

Netflix is removing six of its own original shows and movies in February 2025. In the increasingly uncertain streaming landscape, many streaming services have removed their own originals from their libraries, for a variety of reasons. This includes low viewership, as was the case with Paramount+’s Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and Disney+’s Willow. Other reasons include tax write-offs, as has been the case with many Max titles including the cancelled Batgirl movie, which had wrapped filming and was in post-production but was never released.

Netflix has also removed a number of original titles from its library, though the majority of these have been taken down because of the end of licensing agreements rather than viewership or financial issues. This includes the Netflix Marvel shows in the Defenders universe, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher, which are now streaming on Disney+. Even though many shows and movies are distributed by Netflix as originals, their licensing deals don’t all exist in perpetuity, so some are renewed after a set amount of time, though others have had their licenses renewed, like Arrested Development.

Netflix Is Removing Four Shows, Two Movies, And A Comedy Special

The Titles Include Unstoppable And The Coldest Game

There are half a dozen Netflix original shows and movies that will be removed in February. The majority of the content leaving the platform is foreign-language titles, particularly limited series and one-season shows, including the anime show Cyborg 009: Call of Justice, the Portuguese family drama Until Life Do Us Part, the Chinese drama Handsome Siblings, and the Mexican road trip series Unstoppable. The only two feature-length projects on their way out are the 2017 Hungarian drama On Body and Soul and the 2019 Polish thriller The Coldest Game.

The Coldest Game centers on a chess match between the United States and the Soviet Union amid the Cuban missile crisis and features a performance by Independence Day‘s Bill Pullman.

According to the February update from What’s on Netflix, all six of these titles will be removed from the platform by the end of the month, beginning with On Body and Soul on February 2 and concluding with Unstoppable on February 28, which is the final day of the month, as 2025 is not a leap year. Also being removed, on February 21, is the 2023 comedy special Sommore: Queen Chandelier, which is the most recent title leaving the platform. What This Means For The Removed Netflix Series

They Could Find New Streaming Homes

Ultimately, it remains to be seen where all of the removed Netflix series and movies will land. However, as their removal is likely the result of the end of licensing deals, it is possible that the titles could find new streaming homes relatively quickly. At the very least, they may arrive on video on demand platforms in the coming weeks, a fate which has even been the case for some shows that were eliminated because of low viewership, including Paramount+’s Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.
