Released by Star Wars on Twitter/X, a new 30-second teaser was revealed featuring a few new shots of footage along with dialogue between Cassian and Luthen Rael. However, the most exciting new shot was a new sequence with K-2SO, the Imperial KX-series security droid who gets modified to aid Cassian and the Rebels. However, this new teaser definitely suggests that the beloved droid voiced by Alan Tudyk has yet to be reprogrammed:
Seeing how the story of Cassian and K-2’s first meeting has been told on the page, it will be interesting to see if Andor season 2 adapts what’s been established or rewrites the canon for their on-screen origins.
This Is The Story I’ve Been Wanting To See Since Andor Was Announced
Seeing How Cassian and K-2 First Met On-Screen
Thanks to the canonical Star Wars comics from Marvel, K-2’s origins with Cassian were told in a special issue released in 2017, just a year after the theatrical release of Rogue One. In it, K-2 was an Imperial droid working on the planet Wecacoe when he discovers and attempts to arrest Cassian and his Rebel allies. However, Cassian manages to partially wipe K-2SO’s memory, convincing him to work with him and the Rebel Alliance going forward. This leads to their ongoing partnership seen in Rogue One.

All 10 Main Characters In Andor Season 2, Ranked By The Chance I Think They’re Going To Survive
Andor is a dark drama where almost anyone could die at any time, so which Star Wars characters are most likely to survive the second season?
To that end, this new Andor season 2 footage shows a KX droid (who’s more than likely K-2) menacingly walking towards Cassian, while the Rebel himself fires his blaster at the incoming droid; the clear implication being that they’ve yet to become allies. As such, one has to wonder if their origins on-screen will mirror what’s already canon in the comics, or if there might be some slight changes. Star Wars has been known to rewrite and bend canon in favor of providing on-screen versions.
Rogue One Is Going To Feel Even More Tragic After Andor Season 2
We Already Know How K-2’s Story Ends…
While the opportunity to see the origins of K-2SO is exciting, there’s no denying that it’s going to make Rogue One feel even more tragic than it already is. After all, the entire main cast of Rogue One meets a tragic end, including K-2, who gives his life fighting Imperials to buy Cassian and Jyn Erso time to transmit the Death Star plans to the Rebel fleet in orbit above Scarif. Keeping that in mind, K-2’s role in Andor season 2 is undoubtedly one of the things I’m most excited to see in the upcoming Star Wars show.
Andor season 2 is set to premiere its first three episodes April 22nd on Disney+.
