Night Court Clip Sees The Return Of The Wheelers (Again) & They’re Having A Clucking Hard Time

Night Court continues to honor its origins with a return of fan-favorite original series characters. The reboot series launched in 2023 and saw the return of original Night Court star John Laroquette alongside others, and has proven to be a success for NBC. The cast also features Melissa Rauch, Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi, and India de Beaufort.

ScreenRant is happy to present a clip from the latest episode of the series featuring one of the unluckiest families in the entire Night Court cast. Brent Spiner and Annie O’Donnell return as Bob and June Wheeler, the hapless family from the original series, who are having a clucking hard time with a legal case centered on the antics of their chicken.. Take a look at the clip above. Night Court airs Tuesday nights at 8:30pm on NBC.

Why The Wheelers’ Return Proves The Night Court Reboot Knows What It’s Doing

The revitalized Night Court series was always going to honor its predecessor thanks to the return of some of the original stars, but the Wheelers’ return shows just how much reverence the writers have for the first run of the show. It’s one thing to bring back people like John Laroquette’s Dan Fielding, who was a central figure on the original run, but another to continue a running gag from decades ago. The humor works even for people who don’t know the history of the Wheelers, but even fans of the original show may need a refresher on the characters.

The Wheelers have a deep history with Night Court, and have even appeared once already on the reboot, in season 2 episode 11, titled “Wheelers of Fortune”. The family was featured in six episodes of the original series as well, and the fact that they are coming back for more than one episode of the new Night Court makes their involvement feel less like nostalgia bait and more like a carrying of the original run’s torch. It’s also refreshing that none of the characters were recast, which likely wouldn’t have landed with audiences in the same way.

The fact that the Wheelers work so well in the new era of Night Court also speaks to the consistency of the show’s writing. While new characters and new times necessitate an update in tone on some level (check out Night Court’s musical episode), the fact that the Wheelers bit still works is testament to how well the new run has nailed the original series’ tone. The only sad thing about it all is that the family’s return to Night Court proves that they just can’t catch a break.

New episodes of Night Court air Tuesday nights at 8:30pm on NBC.
