Percy Jackson & The Olympians Season 2 Is “Even Better” Than The First, Gushes Author Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson & The Olympians Season 2 Is “Even Better” Than The First, Gushes Author Rick Riordan

After the success of Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 1, Rick Riordan believes that season 2 will surpass the original. The season is set to adapt the second volume in the Percy Jackson book series, A Sea of Monsters. It will see Percy (Walker Scobell) on a quest through a deadly ocean to save both a friend and all of Camp Half-Blood. The novel was previously adapted into a movie, which failed to interest critics. It earned $200 million at the box office, but unfortunately marked the end of the series’ theatrical releases.

Having been given a second chance by Disney+, Riordan believes that they have finally gotten the adaptation right. As the season continues development during the post-production phase, Riordan spoke with Cosmopolitan. He had nothing but praise for the show. He called the upcoming episodes phenomenal” even without including any special effects. So far, he suspects that season 2 will be “even better” than season 1.

We’ve wrapped principal photography. We are in post-production. Everything’s going really well! I’ve seen cuts of the first two episodes. They are phenomenal, and that’s even without any special effects yet. I’m really pleased with it. I think the second season is going to be even better.

What Percy Jackson’s Production Update Means

It Is Still Months Away

This production update is good news for any critics of Percy Jackson season 1. ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki reviewed season 1 and praised its faithfulness to the books and its quick pace. All the same, Abdulbaki criticized the inclusion of “quite a bit of exposition at first“. With so much of the world already established, season 2 should be able to dodge those arguments. Percy will able to set about his quest without dedicating too much time to establishing characters and settings. That could explain Riordan’s excitement.

It is unlikely that the season will premiere before December 2025.

While Riordan did promise an even better season 2, it is still months away. Season 1 finished filming on February 2, 2023, but the episodes did not air until December 19, 2023. Principal photography for this set of episodes ended on February 1, 2025, so it is unlikely that the season will premiere before December 2025. Riordan may be excited, but Percy Jackson season 2 is still deep in post-production, especially if the VFX work has not even begun.

Our Take On Percy Jackson’s Production Update

This Is Exciting News

A Sea of Monsters is an extremely difficult story to get right. It features new characters, an all-new setting, and it slowly sets the stage for Percy’s future war against the Titans. The water-heavy environment will make the special effects difficult to perfect, as water is a notorious challenge for VFX artists. Still, if Riordan has faith that this season will be successful, there is no reason to doubt him. Given that he was a strong critic of the movies, he has more motivation than anyone to get this right. Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 2 should be thrilling.
