Skeleton Crew Season 2 Teased By Showrunners Ahead Of Tonight’s Finale

Skeleton Crew Season 2 Teased By Showrunners Ahead Of Tonight’s Finale

The creators of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, are sharing their hopes for Skeleton Crew season 2 ahead of tonight’s season 1 finale. Skeleton Crew has already proven to be a huge hit amongst Star Wars fans, with the series having earned some of the franchise’s best critical and audience ratings for any live-action Star Wars TV show. Skeleton Crew‘s young cast have all boasted incredible performances, and this has helped the odds of season 2 for the show to look promising – which the creators are certainly hoping for.

Speaking to TechRadar, Watts insists that they have indeed given Skeleton Crew season 1 a satisfying conclusion, but that if people want to see more Skeleton Crew, we’d be happy to make more. In addition to Watt’s own words, Ford adds that they’re “dreaming of it [a second season]” and they’ve already “come up with different possibilities, so never say never.” The creators have even teased what these “different possibilities” may be.

Watt hints that there’s always a chance that they [the kids] could meet some surprising people in the future. Given the fact this story takes place in the “Mandoverse”, it seems as if Watts could be hinting here at some other notable characters from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and more. Ford goes on to discuss the advantage they have with such a young leading cast, teasing that, if [the kids] appeared in something else, we’d be telling the story of how they grew up and found their place in the galaxy.”

What The Creators’ Hopes Mean For Skeleton Crew Season 2

They Are Thrilling, But Guarantee Little To Nothing

While Skeleton Crew season 2 would be welcomed with open arms, the creators’ own hopes unfortunately don’t hold much merit, which was seen quite plainly with The Acolyte. The latter, which was evidently headed towards season 2 with its rather inconclusive ending, was abruptly canceled in August 2024 – presumably because it under-performed in terms of viewership. Star Wars has proven, then, that they are not granting new installments just for the sake of it, which means Skeleton Crew will have to have truly proven itself to earn season 2 for certain.

Our Take On Whether Skeleton Crew Season 2 Will Happen Or Not

It’s Too Early To Tell, But It Has A Good Chance

It’s hard to tell for sure whether Star Wars will pursue Skeleton Crew season 2 just yet, given that many of the viewership numbers are still as yet unavailable, though the initial numbers for the Skeleton Crew premiere don’t look too promising just yet. On the other hand, viewership alone may not be the determination factor; this TV show has resonated incredibly well with Star Wars fans, being perhaps one of the most universally loved projects since Andor aired in 2022. Skeleton Crew thus certainly has a chance at renewal, should Star Wars want season 2 to move forward.

Skeleton Crew‘s final episode premieres Tuesday, January 14 at 9 PM ET, 6 PM PT, and 2 AM GMT on Disney+.
