Squid Game Season 2 Star Broke Their Rib In While Filming Violent Bathroom Massacre

Squid Game Season 2 Star Broke Their Rib In While Filming Violent Bathroom Massacre

One Squid Game season 2 star broke their rib while filming the intense bathroom fight scene. Season 2 introduced two new players, Thanos (Choi Seung-hyun, a.k.a. T.O.P) and Lee Myungi-gi (Im Si-wan), who were already at odds with each other due to Myungi-gi, a YouTuber, causing many of his followers to lose money on the crypto scam, including Thanos. Just before the rebellion in the Squid Game season 2 finale, a fight broke out between the “X” and “O” voters in a bathroom as players were divided on leaving the game. Thanos targets Myungi-gi before ultimately being stabbed and killed by the YouTuber with a fork.

While speaking with Xports News (with translation from The Tab), Im addressed the filming for the bathroom scene, including the preparation and injury that occurred. The star shared that he and T.O.P trained together at a school to ensure their chemistry would translate on-screen. However, the choreography’s intensity led to T.O.P’s injury when a stunt left him airborne, resulting in a broken rib. Despite the pain and difficulty breathing, the Thanos star insisted on continuing the shoot, pausing only briefly before resuming the scene. Check out his interview below:

“We attended action school together to get in sync. We were both going all out in the action scenes, and there was this moment where we both went airborne during a falling scene. That’s when T.O.P broke his rib. I’ve broken my ribs before, so I know how painful and excruciating it is. You can’t even breathe properly at that point—you should stop, but T.O.P. just kept going. That’s when I realized his experience was on another level.”

In addition, the Myung-gi star praised T.O.P’s performance as Thanos in light of his casting backlash. He doesn’t believe that he would have performed well, at least not in the same caliber as T.O.P.

Acting is subjective, so there’s bound to be different opinions. All I know is that if I had to play the role of Thanos, I don’t think I could have done it—at least not as well as he did.”

What This Means For T.O.P & Squid Game

A Lot Is On the Line For T.O.P’s Post-Injury

T.O.P’s rib injury is a testament to the immense physical demands faced by the cast members in Squid Game season 2, as well as the star’s commitment to the role. His role in season 2 marks the actor’s acting comeback since his marijuana scandal in 2017. His last acting role was in the 2017 movie, Out of Control, where he portrayed the lead role of Tom Young. Since then, the former K-pop star has been blacklisted from Korean media due to his scandal, which resulted in his lowkey social presence for seven years.

T.O.P was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a two-year suspension from mandatory military service for using marijuana, which is an illegal substance in South Korea.

Since then, his casting for Squid Game season 2 has been faced with a lot of backlash by the Korean media. In particular, many Korean critics felt that T.O.P was too much of a controversial figure to be involved with the project. On the other hand, other viewers questioned whether he could embody the complexity of a character like Thanos, especially given his background as a K-pop rapper in his former group BIGBANG. However, his perseverance during such an intense scene may change the audience’s perspectives.
