Stephen Amell Channels Harvey Specter In New Footage From NBC Spinoff

A Suits L.A. trailer provides a closer look at Stephen Amell’s performance. Amell, who is best known for playing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the CW’s Arrow series, plays lawyer Ted Black in the spinoff of Suits, which aired for nine seasons on the USA Network. Suits performed well throughout its televised run, but found resurgent success when it became a massive streaming hit on Netflix in 2023. Instead of the USA Network, Suits L.A. will be released on NBC on February 23.

A new Suits L.A. trailer released via TV Promos shows Amell channeling Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) from the original Suits. The trailer begins with Ted displaying his confident swagger as he declares that, “I am the best attorney in the country.” Harvey is not only channeled through Ted, but is directly shown in a framed picture. Ted is told that Harvey is “the only person I know cockier than you,” followed by Ted remarking that this is why he likes Harvey. Check out the trailer below:

The Spinoff Will Be Heavily Connected To The Original Series

Suits L.A. is emphasizing that the spinoff will be connected to Harvey and to the original series in major ways. Harvey is returning in Suits L.A. as Macht is confirmed to reprise the role for at least three episodes. The trailer makes it clear that Amell’s Ted will be the face of the spinoff, but Harvey’s presence will still be directly felt in the series. Other characters recognize how Ted’s demeanor is strikingly similar to Harvey and Ted.

Beyond similar demeanors, Ted hints at his own history with Harvey. This is a reference to both characters being prosecutors who knew each other while working in New York City. The history between Ted and Harvey will undoubtedly be explored in the spinoff, particularly during Harvey’s three confirmed episodes. Challenging legal cases and Harvey are only part of what Ted will be facing, though, as an explosion in the trailer teases the danger he will be forced to confront.

The trailer further solidifies Suits L.A. as one of the most anticipated network shows of 2025. Amell seems like a perfect fit for Ted, who fits the tone of the original series. As for the connections to Harvey, they may prove to be a double-edged sword. Harvey can help the spinoff feel meaningfully connected to Suits, but he also risks overshadowing Ted and the other new characters. How Suits L.A. handles this will become clearer once the series debuts on NBC.
