The Diplomat Renewed For Season 4 Ahead Of Netflix Thriller’s Season 3 Premiere

The Diplomat has been renewed for season 4 ahead of the Netflix thriller’s season 3 premiere, confirming Kate Wyler’s story is far from finished. The Diplomat season 3 was first announced in October 2024, the same month season 2 of the political drama arrived on the platform. The show’s original early renewal confirmed that Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) would be back for more, her investigation into an international terrorist conspiracy stretching far beyond its initial storyline. Season 3 is set to debut in Fall 2025, following a shocking cliffhanger during the season 2 finale.

Now, Variety reports that The Diplomat season 4 has been confirmed ahead of season 3’s arrival on Netflix later this year. Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria made the announcement during the streamer’s upfronts in New York, confirming the thriller will continue beyond season 3. This renewal for the show is exceedingly early, especially since season 3 isn’t due to premiere until later this year.

What The Diplomat’s Early Season 4 Renewal Says About The Show’s Success

It’s A Big Hit For Netflix That Justifies Its Longevity

Season 4’s early renewal is a good sign for the political thriller, which has continued to prove itself as a popular entry in Netflix’s catalog. For season 2, the series ended up in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 English-language TV shows for its first four weeks, an impressive feat for a sophomore run 18 months after season 1 premiered. Both The Diplomat‘s major characters and sprawling conspiracy storyline have been key facets of the show since the start, no doubt contributing to its ongoing popularity.

The Diplomat season 2 ended on a major cliffhanger, with Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) becoming President after William Rayburn (Michael McKean) dies of a heart attack. It’s unclear where this leaves Kate, who was originally vying to become Vice President after learning Grace was involved in an international terrorist plot. Season 3 is set to focus on the aftermath, alongside Kate’s potential ascendancy to VP. With season 4 announced, it seems this is far from the end of the political thriller’s unpredictable story.

The Diplomat was created by Debora Cahn, best known for her work as a writer on The West Wing and Homeland.
