The Night Agent Star Returning For Season 3 After Fan-Favorite Character’s Season 2 Absence

The Night Agent Star Returning For Season 3 After Fan-Favorite Character’s Season 2 Absence

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for The Night Agent season 2.One The Night Agent star from season 1 is returning to season 3 after being absent from season 2. The new season dropped on January 23 and features an almost entire new cast except Gabriel Gasso’s Peter Sutherland and Luciane Buchanan’s Rose. Chelsea (Fola Evan’s Akingbola) makes a small cameo at the end of The Night Agent season 2, where she appears to work on the security detail of Governor Richard Hagan.

The series’ creator, Shaw Ryan, confirmed that Evans-Akingbola’s beloved character will return for season 3 in an interview with Deadline. The creator revealed that they initially wanted Chelsea in season 2, but the direction the stories gravitated towards made her appearance impossible. At the end of season 2, they found a way to bring her back, which serves as a platform” for season 3’s story that the star “will be” a part of. Check out what he said below:

I don’t view this the way that a lot of TV shows operate in that I think characters come and go and then come back to the show, depending on what the storyline for that season is. An example I would give you is that we really love the character of Chelsea in Season 1, who was played by Fola Evans-Akingbola.

It really pained me to have to call her between seasons one and two, and say, hey, the writers had been working for a few weeks, and we’re gravitating towards stories that I don’t think we have a role for you in. The story has just taken us here, and I’m so sorry, but we love you, and if there’s a chance to get you back on the show at some point, I would love to do it. She was wonderful about it.

As we got towards the end [of Season 2], we found this opportunity to have this little cameo for her that will serve as a platform,” Ryan said. “And I will tell you, she will be part of Season 3.

What This Means For Chelsea’s Future In Season 3

Chelsea Is At The Center Of Season 3’s Conflict

In season 1, Chelsea is the agent responsible for Vice President Redfield’s daughter, Maddie Redfield. She works for the Secret Service and season 2’s ending confirms that she’s been tapped to work for Hagan, who wins the presidential election and will soon become the President of the United States in season 3. However, the season 2 finale also reveals that Hagan is working with the intelligent broker, Jacob Monroe, who manipulated Peter to swing the election toward Hagan, which puts him at the center of season 3’s conflict.

Why Catherine Doesn’t Fully Trust Peter In The Night Agent Season 2

Peter Sutherland’s new boss in The Night Agent season 3 wasn’t thrilled to have him on her team. To be fair, she had some very good reasons.

With Catherine tapping Peter for a new top-secret mission in the season 2 finale to unveil Monroe’s circle of power, it means that Peter will come across Chelsea at some point, making her an important person in taking down Monroe and Hagan. On the other hand, her absence in season 2 also indicates that The Night Agent is a highly plot-driven series, and beloved characters may come and go in relation to the story the season tells, which casts uncertainty over Chelsea’s fate beyond season 3.

Our Take On Chelsea’s Season 3 Return

Chelsea Is The Key To Peter’s Mission

Chelsea is definitely Team Peter, since she has helped him before in season 1, but as an agent of the Secret Service, her top job is to protect Hagan, which makes her an obstacle (at least at first) and in direct conflict with Peter’s mission. Hagan being the President in The Night Agent season 3 also means that Peter’s new mission will be his hardest ever and one with the highest stakes.

The attempt to take down the President will likely put Peter in a position where his loyalty and reputation are in question again. Chelsea’s help would be crucial to Peter’s mission. If she refuses to help him, not only will the country be in the wrong hands, but Peter will forever be remembered as a traitor. In this way, Chelsea is the key to the mission in The Night Agent season 3.
