Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Rookie season 7, episode 13!The Rookie star Deric Augustine reacts to fans’ latest ship, breaking down the possible relationship and whether it would really work. Augustine portrays newcomer to the LAPD Miles Penn, a new rookie who previously worked at Sugar Land Police Department in Texas. Since his introduction in The Rookie season 7, he’s gotten close to his fellow officer-in-training, Celina (Lisseth Chavez), leading to some speculation that sparks would fly between the two. This is despite the latter having a boyfriend in singer Rodge (Zander Hawley).
Speaking with ScreenRant, Augustine acknowledged the ship between Miles and Celina in The Rookie season 7, admitting he’d seen some chatter online about it. However, the actor stated that, despite the strong friendship between the pair, their relationship is never going to progress to the point of being romantic. This is both because of her current relationship with Rodge, and his own moral code. Even so, he hinted at plenty of important moments between the pair in the future. You know what, I’ve seen the stuff, especially on Twitter. I think they’re calling the ship “Milina” or something like that. I see there are people voting right now on the Miles and Celina ship name, which is so cool. I think Miles is a professional. That’s why when people were kind of shipping him and Rachel—Miles would never date someone his T.O. dated, because I think that’s how professional Miles is, and he’s from the south.
We have morals and values in the south. We don’t do that. I think Miles is going to do everything he can to not mess up his job or bring any type of ill-will to the Mid-Wilshire division. So if he gets into a relationship with anyone at that division, he’s going to be all in. But I will say this, she’s a taken woman on the show, and Miles does not cross that line. So they’re friends right now, and they’re very, very good friends.
And Celina needs Miles just as much as Miles needs Celina because they teach each other things. I think Celina really teaches Miles how to be humble and how to get along with people. Even in that first episode, when she was like, “If you need anything, any help, this is what we do,” and Miles was like, “I’m from Texas. I don’t need no help.” But he desperately did need help and Celina was kind enough to offer that help, and we’re going to see more of that friendship-relationship, hopefully, in future episodes.

The Pair Probably Aren’t Getting Together Soon
Miles and Celina’s friendship has become a cornerstone of the major interactions between characters in The Rookie, the pair having plenty of chemistry every time they’re onscreen together. This is not only because of her having a similar level of experience to him, but also because of their shared love of their jobs. This was reflected in season 7, episode 13, when Augustine’s character turned down a lucrative job to continue his police officer training, even if it means still living out of his car for the foreseeable future.

However, it sounds like this future doesn’t involve a romantic relationship with Celina, with the character unwilling to date her because of his own moral clause. This is important because the progression of their friendship can make for an interesting, platonic relationship that can develop even further as the series goes on. Even though it means they probably won’t have a romance spark up, even if life events change drastically for them going into The Rookie season 8, they’re still a dynamic pair who clearly work well together.

Where Could It Really Go From Here?
Since it sounds like Miles and Celina’s relationship isn’t going to progress beyond romance, The Rookie season 7 will likely continue to have their interactions with one another remain the same. Although there could be sparks of romance between them in the series’ future, for now, it doesn’t sound like the show is going to be pursuing that avenue for the two of them. However, even if they don’t get together romantically, the duo still have plenty of chemistry that will make their future interactions memorable no matter what.
