This article contains plot details for Daredevil: Born Again episodes one and two.
Following the surprising twist at the start of its debut season, Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane acknowledged fan concerns over whether or not Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page would have a substantial presence in the series. Woll returns to the world of Daredevil after starring in the 2015 show of the same name. In addition to Woll, Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Elden Henson, Ayelet Zurer, and Wilson Bethel, among others, reprised their roles. However, fans were shocked when the first episode killed off Henson’s Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, who was Daredevil/Matt Murdock’s close friend and the heart of the show.
In the original Netflix series, audiences were introduced to Matt and Foggy as ambitious young lawyers, with Karen also being their employee. After Foggy’s death, Karen has relocated to San Francisco and cut ties with Matt, with whom she was previously romantically involved. Episode two subsequently did not feature her character, casting doubt on whether she would be a substantial part of the series moving forward.

I’m Devastated By What Daredevil: Born Again Did To Karen Page
Daredevil: Born Again is fantastic, but I’m struggling to look past what the series seems to be doing with Karen Page and it might be a dealbreaker.
Speaking with TVLine, Scardapane addressed Karen’s potentially “limited presence.” The writer said he would question that phrasing as “there are things to be revealed.” He further explained: “Because it is this [superhero] world, don’t count everything out quite yet. There are returns that I think are surprising and inevitable.”
Based on Scardapane’s comments, audiences haven’t seen the last of Karen. Given her importance to both Daredevil and to Frank Castle/Punisher, Karen is an essential character in this corner of the MCU. Initially, Woll was not slated to return, but she and Henson were brought back into the fold when the series received a creative overhaul. Cox addressed their return prior to the Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere:
It was pretty heartbreaking when they weren’t around initially. When we came back to filming, and they had made some changes, which you guys obviously probably read about and stuff, you know, it was clear that Foggy and Karen are kind of the heartbeat of our show. They always were. So [it feels] really special to have them back.
While Karen’s role is scaled back, her importance hasn’t changed. Matt was devastated upon seeing her after the trial for Foggy’s murderer, Bullseye, and being unable to reconnect. There’s clearly unfinished business between the two. Woll also commented on Karen’s life outside of her association with Daredevil, saying: “You might not see the Karen Page story, but she’s having a whole TV show on her own that no one filmed. And make sure that for our characters who are not superheroes or not the lead fighter in that way, that we just continue to honor that they have full lives.“
Though she may not be as prominent a character as she was in Netflix’s Daredevil, Karen is stll important to Matt, and therefore, she’s important to his journey. With seven more episodes on Daredevil: Born Again, it remains to be seen how she re-enters the plot, but if Scardapane is to be believed, she’ll be back onscreen and in Matt’s life soon.
