Twisted Metal Season 2 Trailer Reveals Calypso’s Arrival As Anthony Mackie’s John Doe Joins The Tournament

Twisted Metal Season 2 Trailer Reveals Calypso’s Arrival As Anthony Mackie’s John Doe Joins The Tournament

Twisted Metal season 2 has its first official teaser. The Peacock series, which is based on the video game franchise of the same name, is an action-thriller about post-apocalyptic delivery driver John Doe (Anthony Mackie), whose encounter with colorful characters such as the murderous clown Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa, voiced by Will Arnett) and the runaway Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) change his life forever. Twisted Metal season 2 will be set during a life-changing racing tournament led by the mysterious Calypso (Barry‘s Anthony Carrigan).

Peacock has now unveiled the first official teaser for Twisted Metal season 2. It opens with John Doe reintroducing himself about a year after the events of season 1. Footage from that season is interspersed with closeups of Sweet Tooth and Quiet, but as he introduces the tournament and his stakes, new drivers from the tournament begin to appear as well. What ensues is a barrage of quick shots of wholesale slaughter where humans and vehicles are equally at risk.

The teaser ends with Calypso introducing himself and beginning the tournament, followed by a shot of a hand entering a giant wheel, teasing the appearance of iconic video game character Axel. It also promises that the show will premiere on Peacock in summer 2025. Watch the video below:

The teaser has also come along with new key art for the season, which shows Sweet Tooth (whose head is on fire) behind the wheel of his ice cream van and holding up the peace sign, representing the number two. Check out the full-size image below:

Writer, showrunner, and executive producer Michael Jonathan Smith has also teased the upcoming season by sharing a plot synopsis and a general overview, teasing that of the 18 drivers in the tournament, “not all of them will survive.” Read his statement here:

The stakes couldn’t be higher as John Doe (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) risk their lives to compete in a dangerous demolition derby tournament. The prize? A single wish, their greatest hearts desire, granted. The only problem is sixteen other drivers have wishes of their own. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz lead a stellar cast, including Will Arnett & Joe Seanoa (aka Samoa Joe) as fan favorite Sweet Tooth, and Anthony Carrigan as the iconic tournament host Calypso, in a fast-paced, hysterical, thrilling season with unforgettable characters. It’s too bad not all of them will survive.

Even More Video Game Characters Are Joining The Show’s Universe

One of the major things promised by this teaser is the fact that the Twisted Metal cast will see tremendous growth in season 2. Although some of the new characters will likely perish soon after being introduced, as promised by Smith, there are quite a few who are likely to be major players in season 2. This includes Calypso and Axel, who both receive pride of place, but also characters such as The Dolls, led by John Doe’s sister Dollface, who are seen whooping on top of their car carrier, and the Evel Knievel-esque motorcyclist Mr. Grimm.

Axel is a character whose vehicle is a pair of tractor tires, which he is attached to from between them via his hands and a waist harness.

Although the tournament and the new characters are the focus of the teaser, there are also quite a few moments featuring Quiet and John Doe. They were separated during the Twisted Metal season 1 ending, but the teaser does reveal that the pair will reunite at some point during the lead-up to the tournament, though the status of their burgeoning romantic relationship from the previous season remains unknown.

It Promises A Return To Form

Although the new Twisted Metal teaser does not reveal too much about the storyline of the impending season, the glimpses that it offers reveal that it is striving to capture the same playful and high-octane tone as season 1. This could be very much to the show’s benefit, as a summer 2025 release window means that the new season will premiere almost exactly two years after the original, which dropped in its entirety on July 27, 2023.
