A new sneak peek from Wednesday season 2 reveals that the titular character of Netflix’s hit series has an even bigger mystery to solve, and more family lore to unpack. From the mind of director Tim Burton, Wednesday follows the titular Wednesday Addams, as she uncovers the secrets of Nevermore Academy while befriending fellow outcasts Enid, a werewolf, and Eugene, an aficionado of bees. After debuting in 2022, Wednesday season 2 part 1 will release on August 6.
The new video from Netflix includes snippets from the upcoming season, along with behind-the-scenes interviews and footage with the cast and creatives. The sneak peek shows the return of characters Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsley. Past franchise characters will also be introduced in season 2 of Wednesday, including “Grandmama” Hester Frump, played by Joanna Lumley. The Absolutely Fabulous alum expressed her excitement about joining the cast in the new season, and on working with director Tim Burton:
“There’s always something thrilling about working for Tim Burton.[…] The world that they’ve created here, it looks sensational. It’s gothic, sometimes quite bone-chilling, but it’s kind of playful.”
What This Means For Wednesday Season 2
Season 2 Of Wednesday Will Feature More Time With Other Members Of The Addams Family
This brief glimpse into season 2 of Wednesday promises that the series has much more in store – not only for Wednesday Addams, but for the other family members as well. While season 1 focused mainly on Wednesday and her time with her fellow outcasts at Nevermore Academy, the upcoming season will have her sharing the spotlight with other characters: namely Pugsley Addams, Wednesday’s younger brother, who seems to have inherited his Uncle Fester’s electricity powers, and Morticia Addams, who has taken a job at Nevermore Academy and will be living in close quarters with her children.

Wednesday Season 2’s Returning Addams Family Member Improves Upon One Of The Best Parts Of Season 1
Wednesday season 2 will see Wednesday spend a bit more time with some original Addams Family characters, which is great news for one in particular.
With her family members close by, the show is certain to reveal more dark branches of the Addams family tree. There are also more opportunities for Wednesday to bond with her little brother, her parents, and her uncle – and for viewers to get to know more about her maternal grandmother.
Our Take On What’s In Store For Wednesday Season 2
The Inclusion Of An Original Character Might Be A Bit Premature
Being a longtime fan of the Addams Family franchise, and a huge fan of the Netflix show, there are a lot of things from the sneak peek that I am excited for. Seeing Pugsley be more involved is perhaps what I’m most looking forward to, as season 1 set up the character in such a way that had me wanting to know more about him. As he joins Wednesday at Nevermore, it looks like Pugsley is still having trouble fitting in as “an outcast among outcasts,” as director Burton puts it.

Wednesday Season 2 Finally Explains A Long-Standing Mystery About The Addams Family’s Wealth
Netflix has shared more information about one of Wednesday season 2’s newest characters, and it solves the old mystery of the Addams family’s wealth.
There are, however, a few aspects that I am a bit uncertain about: the introduction of Hester Frump, for example. The entry of an original Addams character to the franchise seems a bit premature for only season 2, especially when there are other characters to explore, such as the iconic Grandmama Addams, Gomez’s witchy, wily mother. And there is still a lot we don’t know about Lurch, the family’s loyal driver and butler, who has never been explored much within the franchise.
It’s possible that Grandmama Frump will be joining Wednesday season 2 to expand the Addams Family canon, and perhaps add more mystery and allure to the show. It helps that Joanna Lumley already has a history of playing “fabulous” characters, and if the sneak peek is anything to go by, she will fit right in with Wednesday’s brand of sophistication.
