“What Happens In L.A. Stays In L.A.:” Charlie Cox Teases If Matt Murdock Will Reunite With She-Hulk In Daredevil: Born Again

“What Happens In L.A. Stays In L.A.:” Charlie Cox Teases If Matt Murdock Will Reunite With She-Hulk In Daredevil: Born Again

Almost three years after She-Hulk: Attorney At Law officially brought Matt Murdock to the television side of the MCU, Charlie Cox is taking the lead in Daredevil: Born Again. The actor originated the role in Netflix’s 2015 show, Daredevil, which was dubiously canon to the MCU before being added to the official franchise timeline. Cox also reprised the role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, 2024’s Echo, and 2025’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Though Cox’s Daredevil is a gritty, street-level hero, his appearance in She-Hulk was more comedic, depicting the Man Without Fear having a one-night stand with Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. Fan response to his role in the series was mixed, but the negativity was overshadowed by the hope that Cox would remain part of the MCU. Regardless, Cox maintains that the heroes’ dalliance is canon to Daredevil: Born Again, taking place before the latter series begins.

The actor told IGN: “I think it’s a case of whatever was going on with Matt in that period of time. He was able to leave that in JFK when he got on the plane.” Cox then quipped that “what happens in L.A. stays in L.A.” He also revealed he is aware of the divided audience response to his time on She-Hulk. Cox stated:

“It’s funny how many opinions I’ve heard about this little moment in She-Hulk. There’s the Walk of Shame, which was a last-minute idea where they set up a big green screen and just had me walk across it carrying my shoes. And a lot of people don’t like it, and a lot of people love it.”

Cox felt that the lighter take on Matt’s character worked because She-Hulk is a more comedic show. He explained: If you take the Matt Murdock from our show and you put him in She-Hulk as-is, he’s probably overly serious and becomes the butt of all jokes, so he’s got to adapt to the tone. The actor pointed out that “there’s precedent within the comics” as “there are many runs of the comics where there’s a lot of levity, there’s a lot of tongue-in-cheek, a lot of fun.”

I’m So Sad I Don’t Think Daredevil: Born Again Can Ever Use The Original Show’s Best Villain Other Than Kingpin Because Of A Different Series

Daredevil: Born Again will feature the return of several characters from the original Netflix show, but one of the best villains has no way back.

As such, Cox sees She-Hulk coming to Daredevil: Born Again as an “opportunity” with “a whole different [kind of] fun.” The actor left the possibility on a vague-yet-exciting note, saying “maybe at some point we’ll get to see the favor returned.

While Daredevil’s appearance on She-Hulk was divisive, part of the fun of the MCU is the interconnected world, as Cox said. Bringing She-Hulk into Daredevil: Born Again would pull the character into a more serious tone, just like Daredevil became more comedic while on her series. Notably, Maslany is game to reprise her role in a grittier setting. The actress previously told Screen Rant:

Would I be born again? I mean, absolutely, [Cox] was so great. He was so fun, like a really fun person to play with. And I think what he did so well was take a character that exists in a different tone and totally adapt him for this new tone, while still maintaining the integrity of the character, which is actually very funny, then. To see him collide with this sort of goofier world. […] I have a serious, well, I have a lot of serious bones in my body.

Our Take On A Potential Reunion Between She-Hulk And Daredevil

It’s true that She-Hulk and Daredevil: Born Again are worlds apart in tone, but so are a lot of MCU properties. The enjoyment of a shared universe is seeing different characters interact and adapt to new settings and circumstances. If Daredevil can explore his humorous side on She-Hulk, then the superheroine could (and perhaps should) do the inverse on Daredevil: Born Again.
