Babygirl Pushes A24 Past Major 2024 Box Office Milestone (That Beats 2023’s Record)

Babygirl has allowed A24 to achieve a major box office milestone for 2024. The erotic thriller follows CEO Romy Mathis (Nicole Kidman), whose personal and professional lives are challenged when she begins an affair with her young intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson). Reviews for Babygirl have largely been positive, with Kidman and Dickinson receiving considerable praise for their performances, along with acclaim for Halina Reijn’s direction.

This is only the latest hit for the increasingly successful A24, the independent film studio that continues to gain more prominence. Numerous Academy Award wins for the absurdist comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once and the coming-of-age drama Moonlight have helped bring much of that recognition. A24 has also experienced its fair share of box office success, with Everything Everywhere All at Once, Alex Garland’s Civil War, and Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems being among the studio’s best-performing movies at the domestic and worldwide box office.

Babygirl Gives A24 A New Milestone That Far Surpasses 2023’s Box Office

Civil War And Heretic Are Among A24’s Other High-Earning 2024 Movies

As per The Numbers, thanks to Babygirl, A24 has now grossed more than $200 million at the domestic box office in 2024. Babygirl‘s $8.4 million domestic earnings brings A24’s domestic total to $203.4 million. This is significantly more than A24’s domestic box office total in 2023, which only amounted to $138.2 million. It is worth noting that A24 released 19 movies in 2024 and only released 17 movies in 2023, but the domestic box office increase is still substantial.

A24’s horror movie Talk to Me was the highest-earning movie at the domestic box office in 2023 with $48.3 million.

Civil War‘s box office is the largest contributor to A24’s domestic earnings, as the Garland-directed movie brought in $68.8 million. It is A24’s second highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office, with only Everything Everywhere All at Once ahead of it. Despite releasing on December 25, Babygirl is already A24’s sixth highest-grossing domestic movie of the year. Hugh Grant’s Heretic, Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s We Live in Time, Zac Efron’s The Iron Claw, and Mia Goth’s MaXXXine fill out the rest of the top six.

A24 Movies Continue To Find Critical And Commercial Success

Babygirl continues the trend of many of A24’s best movies being both critically and commercially successful. Kidman’s star power is definitely a benefit for Babygirl.
