Scream 7 Filming Start Confirmed By Director With Emotional Post

Scream 7 director Kevin Williamson confirms that filming has begun for the next installment of the horror franchise. The Scream 7 cast includes Courteney Cox reprising her role as Gale Weathers and Neve Campbell returning to play Sidney Prescott. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera were intended to be part of the cast as well, but Ortega exited the project due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday season 2, while Barrerra was fired due to comments she made about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

With production now underway, Williamson went to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo from Scream 7‘s filming as he praised the cast and crew and expressed his enthusiasm for the movie. He described the most recent filming as “one of the best days of my life” and explained that he felt the need to share how much this means to him. Williamson ended his post with eagerness to continue the creative process as Scream 7‘s production moves forward. Check out his post below:

What This Means For Scream 7

Scream 7 Is Now On The Right Track

Due to a variety of factors, including Ortega’s departure, Barrera’s firing, and a creative overhaul, Scream 7 faced several days before its February 27, 2026 release date was confirmed. After these delays, and with the two-year anniversary of Scream VI releasing in March 2023, Williamson’s post is a good sign that Scream 7 is now moving forward as intended. With filming already in progress, the movie should be able to meet its February 2026 release date.

Beyond the movie proceeding well, the enthusiasm and gratitude conveyed in Williamson’s post makes it clear how much the project means to him. It bodes well for Scream 7 being a worthy addition to one of the all-time best horror franchises. Scream VI received some of the franchise’s best reviews since the original movie was released in 1996. If Williamson’s post is any indication, Scream 7 could follow suit, and extend the franchise’s streak of overall positive reception.
