Euphoria star Storm Reid explains why she’s not returning for season 3. After several production setbacks, the long-awaited third installment of the hit HBO drama is expected to begin filming by the end of January. Most of the core Euphoria cast are set to return, including lead star Zendaya in the role of Rue Bennett. But as for Reid, she recently confirmed that she will not be back to play Rue’s younger sister Gia.
In comments to TMZ, Reid talked about her reasons for not returning. She first mentioned that she will miss the cast and crew, explaining that she feels grateful for getting to play the role of Rue’s younger sister.
“Just being with the whole crew and cast has been such an amazing experience, and I’m forever indebted to the show. I’ll miss them. I’ll miss hanging out with them, but it’s going to be a good season, and I can’t wait to watch.”
Still, as she explains in the quote below, the Emmy-winning Last of Us guest star will not be returning for Euphoria season 3 due to scheduling conflicts. In particular, Reid cites the fact that she will soon graduate from USC and is focused on her production company, which is called A Seed & Wings:
“I got stuff going on, I’m about to get my degree and graduate from USC, producing… so, you know, schedules can’t just align sometimes. It’s a scheduling thing. It’s going amazing. I have a production company called A Seed & Wings that I’m doing a lot of work with so, you know, schedules just can’t align sometimes.”
What Gia’s Absence Means For Euphoria Season 3
There Will Be A Time Jump
Although little is known about the story of Euphoria season 3, it’s confirmed that the HBO series will include a time jump. It could be the case that, with Rue being a bit older, her arc would focus less on her family life. That would include Rue’s complicated but loving relationship with her sister Gia. It may as well encompass Rue’s even more turbulent relationship with her mother, Leslie, who is played by Nika King.

What Is Going On With Euphoria Season 3? Delay & Cast Problems Explained
Euphoria fans have been anxiously awaiting season 3 for a long time, and it sounds like they will have to wait even longer after additional delays.
Given that so much of the process around the upcoming episodes has been mired in conflict, and no news has yet to emerge that signals the start of production, it’s unknown what the show’s long absence means for the expansive supporting cast. That includes the parents of the respective lead characters and the secondary characters in the young cast. What can be said with certainty at this point is that, after the Euphoria season 2 finale served as an epilogue to the high school years, the next chapter will serve as a fresh start.
Our Take On Storm Reid’s Euphoria Exit
The HBO Show Has Gone Through A Lot Since 2022
Euphoria hasn’t released a new episode since 2022. A lot has happened in that time, but none more tragic than the loss of actor Angus Cloud. It’s been more than three years, and it will likely be closer to four years before viewers see the return of Rue and other characters. Understandably, some cast members would have moved on to other priorities, given the delays related to the Hollywood strikes and other events. At the very least, the bond between Rue and Gia was left in a good place.
