How One Chicago’s 2025 Crossover Episode Will Impact Fan-Favorite Couple Teased By Showrunner

The One Chicago franchise is gearing up for its first crossover event since 2019, and it may heavily impact one beloved couple. The One Chicago franchise is a collection of shows that follow the work of first responders in Chicago, Illinois, with each series focusing on a specific area, such as the local hospital or fire department. The latest three-part crossover event will air on NBC on January 29, with streaming available on Peacock following the broadcast. It will focus on what happens when a gas explosion triggers a train accident below ground.

During an interview with HELLO! Magazine, Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan revealed that this crossover will heavily focus on Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger), a favorite couple from the series. She explained that the duo will face mounting pressures during the event, which may carry long-term consequences for their storyline. Sigan also teased new developments for all shows involved with the crossover. Check out her comments below:

For Burgess and Ruzek and this crossover, there’s quite a lot they have to do, there is a lot on their shoulders throughout these three hours. And certainly, what you’ll see in the rest of our season, is that they reach a breaking point. To see the juxtaposition of their joy and progression and the harsher realities of life, it does eventually have to be dealt with and that piece of it will definitely be continuing for us.

Hats off to the writers, they did a really nice job of making this thing feel really cohesive and interwoven, which is fun, and I think it’s going to be a little new for us.
