Ghosts is preparing to introduce a variety of new characters in the final episodes of season 4. An adaptation of a beloved British comedy, the show follows a series of ghosts trapped in a mansion. Season 4 began on October 17, and is expected to run through February 27. Ghosts season 5 has not yet been confirmed, but the show has been a massive success so far and has even earned an Australian adaptation.
In an interview with ScreenRant at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Asher Grodman (Trevor) gave some insight into a major upcoming arc. While Grodman did not reveal too much, he did explain that there will be new characters appearing, each of whom will have strong connections to the existing ghosts, and they will debut as the show goes “back in time“. Check out his quote below:
I can tell you we’re going to go back in time, and we’re going to have people come in who have had big impacts on these ghosts, and people who have been impacted by the ghosts that the ghosts are not aware of. It’s going to really freak some of the ghosts out—the legacy they’ve left behind.
What The New Spirits Mean For Ghosts
The Ghosts Will Have Another Chance To Move On
Grodman’s mention of going “back in time” may be one of the more intriguing notes. After all, it could imply flashbacks, modern-day introductions of past characters, or even time travel. Many of the ghosts have spirit powers, which allow them to influence the living. If one ghost can bring the living into the past, they could meet the loved ones of each of the spirits, which could also come in the form of new ghosts, or simply be a way for them to reunite with those they loved. Regardless of how it happens, the effect could result in ghosts being “sucked off“.
A time travel plot could enable them to experience the self-growth needed to move away from the manor.
Regardless of how it happens, it could result in ghosts being “sucked off“, meaning they finally move on from their undead life. Though not fully confirmed, it is expected that, after experiencing significant personal growth, they can be taken to an unknowable afterlife. Flower was once presumably “sucked off“, though she was later found in a well. Four seasons into the show, however, some cast members may move on. If so, a time travel plot could enable them to experience the self-growth needed to move away from the manor.
Our Take On The New Spirits In Ghosts Season 4
It Makes Complete Sense
In a show about ghosts, moving on is always going to be a natural storyline. Many of these ghosts have been trapped for hundreds or thousands of years. Every ghost has a different backstory, and few seem interested in staying forever. Eventually, they will need to come to terms with their past to prepare for the future. Introducing more ghosts or connections to the past is a natural idea that makes complete sense. Though Grodman did not reveal who these new characters are, Ghosts needs fresh blood, and it should make for a fascinating narrative direction.
New episodes of Ghosts air Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
