Succession Star Set For Netflix Show Adaptation Of Classic ’70s Novel That Was Previously An Oscar-Nominated Hit

A Succession star is set for a Netflix series adaptation of a classic 1970s novel, The Boys from Brazil, which was previously adapted into an Oscar-nominated hit. HBO’s critically acclaimed series centered on the owners of a media conglomerate assembled one of the greatest ensembles in recent memory. Countless cast members were nominated for Emmy Awards, with Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen all winning for their performances. Many Succession stars have gone on to lead successful projects, including Strong and Culkin, who are both currently up for Oscars this year in the same category.

Now, according to Deadline, Strong is set to star in a Netflix series adaptation of the novel The Boys From Brazil by Ira Levin, which was previously adapted into the 1978 film of the same name starring Laurence Olivier, who received an Oscar nod for his performance as Nazi hunter Yakov Liebermann. Strong is set to star in the same role. The series adaptation will be written and executive produced by Peter Morgan, the creator of Netflix’s Emmy-winning series The Crown.

What Jeremy Strong Starring In The Boys From Brazil Means For Netflix’s Adaptation

What Is The Book About?

In the novel, which was published in 1976, Nazi hunter Yakov Liebermann (loosely based on Simon Wiesenthal) receives a tip that Dr. Josef Mengele, a concentration camp doctor who performed horrific experiments on prisoners, is alive and living under an alias in Brazil. Liebermann travels to the South American country to track down the infamous “Angel of Death,” only to discover a dark conspiracy aimed at rekindling the Third Reich. For Strong, playing a role like Yakov Liebermann comes with a lot of added pressure and expectation after Olivier already turned in an Oscar-nominated performance as the same character. However, if there’s anyone who can put in the work in terms of researching for the role and rendering his own unique take, it’s Strong. Additionally, pairing the acclaimed actor with Peter Morgan, the creator of a critically acclaimed show in The Crown, is sure to yield great results for Netflix’s The Boys from Brazil.
