Ridley Scott is now set to develop a new Apple TV+ series called High Wire. Scott has mainly been known for his film work. This has included a lot of directing work; most recently, he helmed 2024’s long-awaited sequel Gladiator II. Scott is also known for the Alien franchise as well as the Oscar-nominated film The Martian. The director has been known to dabble in television as well, however. He made his first foray on the small screen when he executive produced the series NUMB3RS from 2005 to 2010, and has also produced works such as The Terror.
As per Deadline, Scott is entering the TV world again with a new Apple TV+ series called High Wire. This series will be based on the thriller novel of the same name by bestselling author Candice Fox. Scott’s label Scott Free will produce the project, with Simonne Overend signed on to executive produce. There are not yet writers nor stars attached.
What This Means For High Wire
The Book Came Out Last Year
Fox’s novel was originally published in September 2024. The standalone thriller is set in the Australian outback, telling the story of a former soldier named Harvey Buck who is racing against time to save his dying girlfriend. While on the journey, he encounters a traveler named Clare Holland, who is becomes stranded when her car breaks down. Harvey offers Clare a ride, and what ensues is a raucous journey wherein the pair are forced to commite a series of crimes.
High Wire will not be the first of Fox’s novels to be adapted for television. The two-season Prime Video series Troppo adapted two of her novels, Crimson Lake and Redemption Point. Troppo received positive reviews, getting a 100% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes in its first season. This is a promising sign for High Wire, which will give Fox’s work the opportunity to be shown on another major American streaming service. Working with a famous producer such as Scott will also elevate High Wire‘s profile.
