Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Yellowjackets season 3 episode 1 & 2!Yellowjackets star Sarah Desjardins explains Callie’s strange pull towards Lottie (Simone Kessell) in season 3. Desjardins’ Callie is Shauna (Melanie Jayne Lynskey) and Jeff’s (Warren Kole) daughter in the present timeline. In Yellowjackets season 3, episode 2, Lottie, fresh out of a psychiatric hold, appears at Shauna’s doorstep for help, and Callie is the one who convinces her parents to let Lottie stay for one night.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Desjardins unpacks Callie’s fascination with Lottie in season 3. The star explains that there are “many different layers” behind the attraction, and that even though Callie may be going through a lot of different emotions when Lottie is at their doorstep, the winning feeling is “curiosity.” With Lottie being more open, there is a real chance for Callie to “get the answers“ that she’s been dying to know. Check out what she said below:
I think there are so many different layers there, but the main ones are that there’s an energy about Lottie, as we all know, as the audience knows. At the end of season 2, Lottie perhaps recognizes something similar in Callie. And Callie does hear what she says, “She’s so powerful,” but she doesn’t know what that means or what to do with it. When Lottie ends up on our doorstep, I think that there are many things [happening]. She’s intrigued by Lottie, she’s afraid of Lottie, and she’s feeling drawn in by Lottie. There’s a lot of confusion.
But I think the main feeling that wins in the end is curiosity. Lottie has such an openness within her energy that I think Callie sees that maybe this is the opportunity to really get the answers from someone that [she’s] been wanting to know. So, she manipulates maybe just a tad. The obvious outcome is to have Lottie stay with us after everything, obviously. Callie just does what she can, and we’ll see how that progresses throughout the season.
Callie Might Uncover More Truth
Desjardins’ comment highlights the nuances in Callie and Lottie’s relationship and what Callie is up to in Yellowjackets season 3, teasing that her character is on a path to uncover the truth. In a separate interview, Kessell shed some light on what Adult Lottie is going through in the new season, explaining that, unlike Lottie’s darker season 2 arc in the past timeline, her character “has no grounding” and is “euphoric.”

Our Take On Callie & Lottie’s Moment In Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 2
It’s Uncertain Whether The Two Together Is A Good Idea
There’s still no certain answer about what’s really going on with Lottie when it comes to her “powers” in Yellowjackets season 3’s opening episodes. She can certainly be dangerous and unstable, and the timing of her appearance at Shauna’s couldn’t be more suspicious, especially after Callie had just received a cassette tape. It’s reasonable for Callie to be confused and want to turn to Lottie for answers, however, it seems that Lottie may not be the one behind the cassette tape, and her presence may have been a complete coincidence.
Someone is clearly targeting Shawna and her family in Yellowjackets season 3. As Desjardins points out, Callie is going through a lot, and both her emotions and curiosity put her in a vulnerable position, and being approached by the wrong person could potentially be catastrophic. As to her bond with Lottie, there’s no telling whether that’s a good thing, but viewers will be able to find out more as the season progresses.
